Page 6 May 28, 2010 Paw Print Press County Fair Dates Set for 2011 Press Release The Hill County Ag Youth, Inc. Board of Directors recently held its annual meeting and set the dates for the 2011 Hill County Fair. It will remain the last week in January, running from Wednesday, January 26, through Saturday, January 29. Re-elected to serve two-year terms on the board from the various justice of the peace precincts were Charlie French of Blum, Nick Pustejovsky of Abbott and Jack Ward of Hubbard. Newcomer on the board will be Craig Morris of Covington. Appointed members coming onto the board include Penny Sumrall representing creative arts and education and Lloyd Warren representing 4-H. In the financial report, proceeds from the sale in the livestock division were up just over $50,000, going from $208,730 in 2009 to $259,315 in January. Livestock Superintendent Curtis Thompson expressed appreciation to those individuals and businesses who came out to support the youth of the county by bidding on their projects. Page 8 May 28, 2010 Paw Print Press Two Horrific Criminal and Merciless Cases Press Release Pictured are recent rescues representing the horrific and criminal actions of a segment of our community. The kitten (not weaned) was found abandoned in a dumpster in a tied plastic bag near Hillsboro Fire Department. A fireman heard noise and discovered the devastating situation of the kitten who had survived being place in a bag of water. Lack of oxygen and being hypothermic nearly claimed the kitten s life. The fireman s fast emergency care immediately warmed the kitten. The kitten (not named yet) is being fostered by Lana Crow. Another equally horrible story is of five puppies being found in a CLOSED cardboard box next to a dumpster outside of Whitney when the outside temperature reached 91 degrees (imagine the temperature in the closed box). Had it not been for their timely discovery by an alert citizen and Good Samaritan, they all would have died a horrific death. The puppies are being fostered by David and Carole Huens. If you can help with any of these beautiful animals, contact Lana Crow @ lanarcrow@sbcglobal.net. Please take a moment and realize that with a proactive county animal control program (where an animal shelter is needed for support) pet overpopulation can be corrected. We simply do not have to live in a community where unwanted domesticated animals have the value of hamburger wrappers. Please continue to support the attainable goals of Paw Pals.
