OPENING KICKOFF SESSION Dr. Maria Pitre-Martin Dr. Pitre-Martin will bring greetings and an update from the Department of Public Instruction and the State Board of Education. Speaker Bio: On March 3, 2016, Dr. Maria Pitre-Martin was named the new Chief Academic and Digital Learning Officer for the Department of Public Instruction. Prior to that, Dr. Pitre-Martin served as Superintendent of Thomasville City Schools. Before working in Thomasville, she served as Director of K-12 Curriculum and Instruction at the Department of Public Instruction. Dr. Pitre-Martin has served as the Chief Academic Officer for the School District of Philadelphia and also served as an Assistant Superintendent for the East Baton Rouge Parish School System in Louisiana. Dr. Pitre-Martin is a Broad Superintendents Academy Fellow with a Doctorate of Philosophy in Educational Administration from Texas A&M University. Dr. Pitre-Martin served as the Director of Research and Staff Development for the Fort Bend Independent School District in Sugar Land, Texas and the principal of Oakwood Intermediate School in College Station, Texas. Mr. Griffin is well known for moving a low performing school to a B school in two years. He is an innovative school leader who understands the importance of collaboration, school culture, and personalizing learning.
