1. COWIN at a glance A unique coordination and support action mandated by the European Commission to support the commercial exploitation of FP6/ FP7 research projects results in smart systems A consortium of complementary companies coordinated by Yole Développement One mission: Filling the gap from technology to market Main objectives: New collaboration with industrial partners for further development Transfer of IP Participate to the launch and growth of start-up companies Moto: Pragmatic and operational actions to make things happen Year 1 Building Portfolio Year 2 Business Development Year 3 Growth financing

2. Actions 2.1 Building added-value portfolio A selection process has been set-up: technology differentiation, fit with market and industrial trends, IP and motivation to support exploitation. The analysis is performed by COWIN including Yole experts combined with feed-back from industrials. Attractive and advanced technologies (upgraded as Gold Nuggets) extracted from EU projects are presented in portfolio highlighting functions and applications. Example of COWIN portfolios: 130 FP6/FP7 projects 40 addedvalue technologies selected Smart medical devices Technologies for food applications Bio & chemical detection for diagnostic Smart System for Water applications Molecular interaction analysis for drug discovery Smart Production & Packaging Process control But also new portfolios on: - Structural health monitoring - Flexible electronics - Energy harvesting and storing

Actions 2.2 Promotion of functions and solutions COWIN - a platform for business development More than 500 industrial expressed interest in smart systems Direct contacts, phone and face to face meetings to identify their interest and promote selected Gold Nuggets COWIN Marketplace: more than 60 individual and qualified meetings between technology holders and potential partners About 70% of the meetings lead to further discussion Follow-up with COWIN support

Actions 2.3 VCs engaged into COWIN Specific support for entrepreneurs 20 start-up companies exploiting FP6/FP7 research projects currently benefit from COWIN support About 20 VCs active in hardware ICT are engaged into COWIN actions Individual support to accelerate the development of young companies They are involved in the COWIN working group set-up to facilitate access to private investment COWIN Investment place in Autumn 2013
