ENTRY INFORMATION AIM The Kyffin Williams Drawing Prize 2018 The Sir Kyffin Williams Drawing prize aims to promote and reward excellence and talent in drawing practice in Wales. The Sir Kyffin Williams Drawing Prize supports and recognizes the work of all artists in the field of drawing, including that of established artists and that of emerging artists engaged in the discipline of drawing. PANEL OF JUDGES The competition will be decided by a panel of judges which will include artists, curators and Trust members. Panel of Judges: David Meredith: Chairman Sir Kyffin Williams Trust Paul Joyner, National Library of Wales: Trustee Sir Kyffin Williams Trust Three other judges to be announced The administrative centre for the prize is based at Oriel Môn, a working partnership between the Sir Kyffin Williams Charitable Trust and Oriel Môn. The prize co ordinator is: Nicola Gibson, Visitor Experience Manager, Oriel Môn. GENERAL Works for the exhibition will consist of work that in the opinion of the Selection Panel qualify as drawings. Drawing is defined, for the purpose of this competition, as: an original work of art, in two dimensions, usually on paper, made of graphic marks which include the use of line within the composition. Work will be accepted for submission on this understanding, and the decision of the panel is final and binding. No correspondence will be entered into. Judges, their family members, Trustees of the Kyffin Williams Trust or staff of Oriel Môn are excluded from entry. All work submitted must be available for the duration of the exhibition. All work made since January 2017 is eligible for entry.

All artists to agree inclusion in the E exhibition. SPECIFICATIONS Each drawing should be authenticated by the artist (e.g. signed and dated) in an appropriate place. Each drawing should be framed (in order to protect and present the drawing appropriately). Frames must be durable for handling purposes; metal frames and clip frames will not be accepted for judging. The organisers will be responsible for hanging all frames which MUST be mirror plated and installed at the centre of each side of the frame and turned inwards for transportation. Composite drawings must be presented within one frame. Artists are responsible for ensuring their work meets these criteria. CARE OF WORK The utmost care will be taken of all work submitted for selection. However, the organisers of the Sir Kyffin Williams Drawing Prize will not be liable for any damage caused to work which occurs in the normal course of handling, whether such damage is caused by the organisers, their team of staff or otherwise. Packing cases are recommended for protecting work of an extremely delicate nature during transportation. Entrants are strongly advised to arrange their own insurance for works entered, as only works selected by the panel will be insured for the duration of the exhibition. January 2019: close of exhibition. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS What is the maximum size drawing I can submit? The maximum size for your work is 1.5m x 1m, including frame What frames are suitable? Any well made, durable wooden frames are acceptable. These types of frames ensure that the surface of your work is protected, and are robust enough to withstand transportation. Does my work have to be signed and dated? Yes. If you have already framed your work and do not want to remove the frame, or you do not wish to sign and date the front of your work because it interferes with the image, please sign and date the back of the frame. Can I enter a composite drawing in separate frames? No. We ask for composite works to be presented in a single frame to ensure that the selection panel is presented with the work in its entirety. What media may I use? There is no restriction on medium: the art work will, however, need to be two dimensional. I am a student do I qualify for the main prize or just the student award? As a student you are eligible for the main prize and the student award. I am in my final year of study can I still enter as a student? Yes.

I will be away on holiday on the submission / return dates. Can I still submit / collect my work? Yes. However, as the collection centres are only open for submission and collection on specific times and dates, you will need to arrange for a representative to deliver and collect your work on your behalf. This can be a family member, a friend or a courier. The work I want to submit was made in December 2016. Is it eligible for entry? No. Only work made since January 2017 is eligible for entry in the Sir Kyffin Williams Drawing Prize 2018. Where do I return my completed application form? Please send all completed application forms, and handling fee payments to: Nicola Gibson, Oriel Môn, Rhosmeirch, Llangefni, Anglesey, LL77 7TQ or send via e mail to: NicolaGibson@ynysmon.gov.uk What happens next? You will be informed by letter by March 31, 2018 whether or not you are being invited to exhibit at Oriel Môn. If you have not received a letter by this date please contact the exhibition co ordinator. Do I have to do anything if my work is selected? If your work is selected you will be sent an entry pack explaining what will be required for inclusion with your drawing. Additional information can be sent via e mail, hard copy or by filling the forms, if hand written is preferred please ensure that block capitals are used to avoid editorial problems. You will be asked to provide a brief biography and a statement about your selected work (maximum of 150 words). This information will be required by April 2018 to ensure copy can be prepared for insertion into the e exhibition. Winners may be contacted to request further information prior to the public announcement.
