Calif. & Pacific. State Encampment. Camp San Luis Obispo. Held at Camp San Luis Obispo (National Guard Base) at the NCO Club/Parker Hall on March 6 th (Friday Night) and 7 th ( Saturday AM & PM). Friday night was an excellent gathering, dinner was a delicious buffet, Saturday, the State meeting started at 9:20 am, a 1 hour lunch began at 12:10, the meeting resumed at 1:10pm and the State meeting ended around 2:45pm followed by a Memorial service at the SLO cemetery across from the Elks lodge, The service lasted about 20-30 minutes, then it was back to Camp San Luis Obispo s NCO Club for the C in C dinner. More coverage as you read. Civil War Living History: at Alcatraz Island in San Francisco. April 4 th, is Civil War Living History day on THE ROCK, all re-enactors wishing to participate must arrive at Pier 33 before 8:10 am for weapons check, NO CAPS or POWDER!, leaves those elements behind, and its all good. Pack a good lunch too. Please refer to the Friends of Civil War Alcatraz website on page three, for parking, registration, and correct uniform insignia requirements, and contact information. Also public ferry times as well.

San Francisco, California. Hope you will consider becoming members and support this new outstanding organization bringing History alive on this Historic Island. * C H U C K W A G O N : OLD FASHIION TURNIIP SOUP,, *2-lb-Veal bones, 1- lb of Turnips, ½ Gallon of Water, & Salt n Pepper to taste. Take two pounds of veal bones to half a gallon of water, and boil (down) to one quart. Put turnips and bones to boil together. Then strain the liquor [liquid] of and send to the table HOT. Season while cooking with pepper n salt. Saloon Solutions: Sack Posset : * 1-qt of Milk, ½ pint of sack wine, Sugar to taste, grated Nutmeg to taste, 4-Damascus Biscuits or a French roll. Put a quart of new milk into a saucepan, and place it over a slow clear fire, when it boils, crumble four Damascus biscuits into it or a French roll, give it one boil, remove from the fire, add grated nutmeg & sugar to taste, stir in half a pint of sack ( Canary wine), and serve. 3

* 123 rd STATE ENCAMPMENT, Camp San Luis Obispo. March 6 th & 7 th, 2009: Friday was Cold and Over-cast, and Saturday was Semi-clear with patchy clouds. After the Installation of the Department officers were installed, the meeting came to an end. A Memorial Ceremony at the SLO Cemetery was held, followed by the CinC Dinner at the NCO Club. That night, CinC: David V. Medert addressed the SUVCW/SVR & ASUVCW members & praised the Department of California & Pacific for maintaining its size and participation in patriotic events. After the meal, an enormous raffle was held, 97 items were raffled, in addendum was a Abe Lincoln Quilt, Beer Steins for a side auction. The evening came to a close as well as the 123 rd State Encampment of the Dept. of California & Pacific. 4
