EVERYTHING COLLEGE! SCALE While school counselors recognize that not all students plan to attend college in the fall after they graduate high school, we want to prepare them so that college is always an option and not an afterthought. To this end, we want to know where our students are on their SCALE. Each letter of SCALE represents a different college-prep focus, and we believe that when students, parents/guardians, teachers, administrators, school counselors, and all other staff work together with a common goal, we can assist and support students with their post high school goals. For the months of September and October, we will focus on the (E) Extra-Curricular Activities aspect of SCALE. We want our students to get involved at Landstown High School Governor s STEM and Technology Academy. Students pay close attention to the announcements on Eagle AM and see page seventeen of your planner for information on the extra-curricular options for you. Welcome back, Eagles, and get involved! BE COLLEGE READY! S STUDY SKILLS, SOL S, SAT, SCHOLARSHIP C CRITICAL THINKING, COLLEGE PREPARATION, CAREER A AP CLASSES, ACT, AVERAGE (GPA) L LIFE SKILLS, LEADERSHIP, LIFE-LONG LEARNING E EARLY COLLEGE SCHOLARS, ELECTIVES, ETRRA-CURRILUAR ACTIVITIES WEIGH YOUR OPTIONS! Here are some simple, but effective, study tips to assist students in developing study skills. Try not to do too much studying at one time. Plan specific times for studying. Try to study at the same time each day. Set specific goals for your study time. Start studying when planned. Work first on the assignment you find to be most difficult. Review your notes before beginning an assignment. Tell your friends not to call you during your study times. Call another student when you have difficulty with an assignment. Review your schoolwork over the weekend. Throughout the year guidance will share different information about the various focuses of scale. 4

College Representative Visits Most representatives visited LHS during the fall. However, a representative from TCC will be available to meet with potential students and provide career counseling in the Guidance Office every other Thursday. For more information, please see Ms. Lawrence in the Guidance Office. Transcripts Most colleges and scholarships require an official transcript. Students may print the transcript request form from the guidance website under Senior Moments, or they pick up a copy in guidance. They will make these transcript requests in guidance, and we ask for two weeks minimum to process transcripts. Guidance will mail students transcripts directly to the college/university or scholarship organization, or students may include the transcript in their packets if this is an option. There is a $2.00 fee for each transcript sent or picked up. PLEASE NOTE: SAT and ACT scores will NOT be sent with students transcripts. Colleges require official scores to be sent directly from College Board or ACT. 5
