3 Childbirth Preparation Class Location: ECRMC Maternal Child Dept. The Childbirth Preparation class is designed for expectant mothers who will be giving birth to their baby at El Centro Regional Medical Center. It focuses on managing the discomforts of pregnancy and the third trimester, labor and birth, medical interventions, vaginal and cesarean birth, comfort measures during labor, breastfeeding and mother/baby care. Students also learn to use the Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and apply first aid. For Dates - See page 8. Diabetes Education Classes Location: El Centro & Calexico Outpatient Centers EL Centro Regional Medical Center, in partnership with Heffernan Memorial Healthcare District, offers FREE Diabetes Education Classes. Medical Terminology for Non-Clinicians Location: Education Building B The Medical Terminology Course is a course designed for nonclinicians who work in the healthcare setting and are interested in learning the language of healthcare. Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to identify, spell, and define common medical terms related to the major body systems, including diagnosis and treatment. 5 2 The Medical Terminology Course is a nine week course designed to assist the non-clinician with understanding the language of healthcare. Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to identify, spell, and define common medical terms related to the major body systems, including diagnosis and treatment. In order to further enhance learning, the participant will receive materials they can take home and practice with. At the end of the course, the participant will receive a certificate of completion. 6 Bridging The Gap RN Continuing Education The Bridging The Gap program is designed to give professional registered nurses an opportunity to gain Continuing Education credits while learning about topics that impact their practice and enhance their clinical and professional knowledge. Classes range from 1-3 units through the California Board of Registered Nursing. Classes are added as needed and according to speaker availability. Course Dates - See page 15. Making the Connection C N A Continuing Education The Making the Connection program is a two-year program designed to enhance the Certified Nursing Assistant s clinical knowledge and skill set on a variety of topics. Up to 4 Continuing Education units may be available for each class through the California Department of Public Health (CDPH). The schedule and course content is reviewed and updated every two years according to CDPH requirements. Each course is offered twice per year! Course Dates - see page 14 Basic Life Support (BLS) According to the American Heart Association, the goal of the Basic Life Support (BLS) Course is to train healthcare professionals to save lives of victims in cardiac arrest through high-quality cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). BLS is a requirement for all clinical staff at ECRMC. Course Dates - See page 9. Basic Rhythms Interpretation Location: Education Conference 2 The Basic Rhythms Interpretation Course is designed for healthcare professionals who are interested in learning how to interpret and respond to basic heart rhythms and arrhythmias. This is a 5 week course, meeting for 4 hours each week. The healthcare professional will receive a certificate upon successful course completion. Course Dates - See page 16. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) According to the American Heart Association, the goal of Advanced Cardiac Life Support is to train healthcare professionals to work as a team and deliver advanced cardiac rescue skills to victims in cardiopulmonary arrest. Must be a Registered Nurse, advanced practitioner or physician to take course. ACLS is only required for certain roles in specific nursing departments, please consult with your department manager prior to enrolling in the course. Course Dates - See page 10. Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) According to the American Heart Association, the goal of Pediatric Advanced Life Support is to train healthcare professionals to work as a team and deliver advanced cardiac rescue skills to pediatric victims in cardiopulmonary arrest. Must be a registered nurse, advanced practitioner or physician to take this course. PALS is only required for certain roles in specific nursing departments, please consult with your department manager prior to enrolling in the course. Course dates - See page 10 Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP ) The Neonatal Resuscitation Program is designed to train healthcare professionals to deliver advanced cardiac and pulmonary rescue to newborn and infant victims in cardiopulmonary arrest. Must be a registered nurse, advanced practitioner or physician to take this course. NRP is only required for certain roles in specific nursing departments, please consult with your department manager prior to enrolling in the course. Course Dates - See page 11. Trauma Nurse Core Curriculum (TNCC) Location: Education Conference 2 TNCC is a course geared towards empowering nurses with the knowledge, critical thinking skills and hands-on training to provide expert care for trauma patients. TNCC is only required for certain roles in specific nursing departments. Please consult with your department manager prior to enrolling in the course. Course Dates See page. 12

7 Emergency Nursing 101 RN Continuing Education This RN Continuing Education Program has been developed for Registered Nurses who are new to the Emergency Department or would like to increase their knowledge and skills related to common conditions seen in the Emergency setting and related pathophysiology. This is a two part course and you must have your department leadership approval prior to registering. Course Dates - See Page 12 ABC s of Assessment RN Continuing Education This RN Continuing Education Program focuses on increasing the nurse s knowledge and skill related to the nursing assessment, including use of the nursing process, subjective and objective assessment, primary and secondary assessment, and pre-arrest recognition. Course Dates - See Page 13 Advanced Assessment Skills RN Continuing Education This RN Continuing Education Program was created to assist the new or experienced nurse with development of advanced assessment skills. It is a great refresher for experienced nurses or new nurses who are still developing their skill. Course Dates - Fall 2018 (Coming soon!)
