THREE STATE 2015 Course Offerings Course Name: Poli cs and the White Helmet Course Code: W121 Course Abbrevia on: PWH This course is aimed at providing the chief officers in both fire service and EMS agencies with an overview of the ways to succeed and work within the local, county, and state level poli cal system to achieve posi ve results for their departments. It will give the officer an improved insight into be er ways to relate and speak to ci zens and others to gain support and understanding of their needs for bond issues, tax votes, and general elec ons. Par cipants learn about successful approaches appropriate for government employees and volunteers. The course iden fies successful tools needed to address the challenge necessary to bring about change, and how a department s culture of power, influence, nego a on, and coali on building is important to success. Course Name: Training Opera ons in Small Departments Course Code: W290 Course Abbrevia on: TOSD This course is designed to provide students with some basic tools and skills to coordinate training in a small fire/ems organiza on. Course Name: Methods of Enhancing Safety Educa on Course Code: W344 Course Abbrevia on: MESE This course is designed for those who coordinate or assist their organiza ons in public educa on. The course does not teach people how to deliver safety programs; rather it supports efforts to enhance safety educa on in their organiza ons and in their communi es. Content is ideal for students from smaller or volunteer organiza ons who wish to enhance their public educa on and preven on efforts. Students will outline ideas and plans that they would like to apply when they return home. Students who take this 2-day program will be able to determine if public educa on is valued in their organiza ons and in their communi es. Course content emphasizes the following three simple methods for establishing roots in public fire and life safety educa on: *personal commitment to public educa on, *determining and improving the organiza on s role in public educa on, and *enhancing programs through greater community support. Course Name: Fire Service Safety Culture: Who Protects Firefighters from Firefighters? Course Code: W349 Course Abbrevia on: FSSC This course will help fire service personnel iden fy their present fire service safety culture, explain how culture drives safety behavior, iden fy risk management strategies, and develop a fire service safety culture interven on plan to reduce injury and death to firefighters in their organiza ons. STICO is designed to develop the management skills needed by company officers to accomplish assigned tac cs at structure fires.

Course Name: Execu ve Skills Series: Exercising Leadership Through Difficult Conversa ons Course Code: W522 Course Abbrevia on: ESS This course teaches students how to use standardized forms to achieve uniformity in their incident and ac vity repor ng. This training program is designed specifically to support local fire service organiza ons, and will assist them in providing data both to their management and to decision makers, as well as to their State uniform fire repor ng system. At a local level, the NFIRS data can be used to: *describe a community s fire problem; *support budget requests; *improve decisionmaking for alloca on of resources; *assist in planning for future fire protec on; *help iden fy opportuni es for scheduling nonemergency ac vi es; *evaluate code enforcement programs; and *iden fy target audiences for public fire educa on programs. Course Name: New Fire Chief: Challenging Issues Course Code: W760 Course Abbrevia on: NFC This course is designed to develop the managerial, administra ve, and leadership skills necessary for the full me fire chief and chief officer who desire a leadership posi on in their department. The course addresses cri cal knowledge and skills pertaining to the responsibili es of a fire chief, including the following topics: local poli cs and the role of the chief officer, liability and risk management, and resources and items of knowledge needed to become a first me leader in a new posi on in the agency. Course Name: Leadership I for Fire and EMS: Strategies for Company Success Course Code: W803 Course Abbrevia on: LIFE This course presents the company officer with the basic leadership skills and tools needed to perform effec vely in the fire service environment. The course includes techniques and approaches to problem-solving, ways to iden fy and assess the needs of the company officer s subordinates, methods for running mee ngs effec vely in the fire service environment, and decision-making skills for the company officer.

There will only be ONE bus that will leave BWI at 4:00PM on Friday and leave campus at 3:00PM on Sunday. Please make sure that you do not book a flight to arrive at BWI a er 3:00PM on Friday or depart before 6:00PM on Sunday, otherwise you will be responsible for your own travel between BWI and the campus. Follow the signs once in Emmitsburg to the Na onal Emergency Training Center / Meals Friday evening: cold buffet-style dinner provided from 4:30PM to 7:00PM Saturday: breakfast, lunch, and dinner provided Sunday: breakfast and lunch provided Meal ckets will ONLY be available at the MANDATORY evening orienta on at 6:00PM on Friday, August 21, 2015. Dress Code Required classroom and dining hall a re for your guidance: Males: Shirts with collars (NO T-shirts), slacks, nice jeans (with no holes) or department uniforms, shoes and socks. Op onal items include sweaters and jackets, etc. Females: Dresses, blouses, (No T-shirts) with slacks or skirts, department uniforms, hosiery and shoes. Op onal items include sweaters, jackets, etc. The wearing of athle c clothing, including ball caps or hats of any kind, is not appropriate in the classrooms, dining hall, or auditorium. A re such as shorts, thongs, tank tops, ven lated shirts, collar-less shirts and cut-off jeans are considered informal wear and should be restricted to a er hour leisure ac vi es.

National Fire Academy Rules of Conduct Each individual has the personal responsibility to exhibit professional conduct while on the Na onal Fire Academy campus. The designated representa ves of the state training agency have the responsibility and authority to monitor and, along with campus security personnel, take necessary ac on to correct any unprofessional conduct. Campus security has the authority to request the name(s) of any individuals who may be disrup ve or discourteous. It is expected that an individual s name will be provided if requested. The security officer will then inform the state representa ves of the circumstances surrounding the incident. In ALL instances of alleged misconduct, all par es will be responsible for determining the facts. Decisions regarding dismissal of any student will be made at the conclusion of a review. The final authority for dismissal rests with the senior United States Fire Administra on official on campus at the me. State representa ves have the authority to dismiss any student for misconduct where the incident occurs outside class hours. Failure to Attend : No Shows The Na onal Fire Academy is keeping a careful watch regarding student cancella ons and NO SHOWS. Students should contact the New Hampshire State Coordinator(s) at 603-223-4200 or 1-800-371-4503 in the event it is necessary to cancel their a endance. Students who fail to cancel their reserved slot and fail to a end will be banned from a ending Na onal Fire Academy courses for a period of two consecu ve years, as per NFA rules Security and Identification Requirements Each student MUST possess a photo iden fica on in order to register at C-West. Addi onally, an NFA iden fica on will be issued to each student and MUST be worn at all mes when on the NFA campus. Vehicles entering or parking on the grounds of the Na onal Emergency Training Center are subject to search, and armed security forces are posted at every entryway.
