WELCOME Dear Fundraiser, Thank you for registering to participate in the 14th Annual Pat s Run! This year, we re asking our participants to set up individual fundraising pages and to each raise $100 or more to support the mission of the Pat Tillman Foundation. We know you may need to recruit a few different donors to reach that goal, and we want you to have the tools you need to educate them about where their money is going. This fundraising kit will provide answers to some questions you may hear. It will also provide you with instructions on how to set up your Crowdrise fundraising page, as well as sample messaging and social media strategies to recruit support from your family and friends. If you have the time and energy to commit to this $100 goal, it will have a significant impact on the lives of the more than 500 Tillman Scholars who embody Pat s legacy of service, learning, and action. OUR MISSION WHAT ARE YOU RUNNING FOR? Pat s Run raises money for the Pat Tillman Foundation. Our mission is to unite and empower remarkable military veterans and spouses as the next generation of public and private sector leaders committed to service beyond self.. The vision of the Pat Tillman Foundation is to help develop the next generation of American public and private sector leaders committed to an idea or cause. WHO WAS PAT TILLMAN? Pat was a professional football player who walked away from a big-money NFL contract to enlist in the U.S. Army in the wake of 9/11. In April 2004, he died serving with the 75th Ranger Regiment in Afghanistan, and his memory lives on today through the work of the Pat Tillman Foundation. WHAT IS THE PAT TILLMAN FOUNDATION? Family and friends established the Pat Tillman Foundation following Pat s death in April 2004. Founded in 2008, the Tillman Scholars Program supports activeduty service members, veterans and their spouses with academic scholarships, a national network and professional development opportunities, so they are empowered to make an impact at home and around the world. WHO ARE THE TILLMAN SCHOLARS? Tillman Scholars are a select group of service members, veterans and military spouses to whom the foundation grants academic scholarships so they can pursue their dreams of continued service both in and out of uniform. These scholars are creating positive change in the fields of medicine, law, business, education, the arts and more. WHAT DOES THAT HAVE TO DO WITH PAT TILLMAN? Pat s greatest legacy is a commitment to service, learning and action. These scholars are the living embodiment of those principles leaders who will go out and change the world. FUNDRAISING HOW TO SET UP A FUNDRAISING PAGE You can set up a fundraising page for Pat s Run in just a few easy steps. Every donation you gather will help Tillman Scholars achieve their dreams to further their education and continue their service. To get started, visit the link below and click SET UP YOUR FUNDRAISER button. Choose to either JOIN A TEAM or START YOUR OWN FUNDRAISER, complete the required information, and follow the prompts to create your personal fundraising page. Each fundraiser will receive a custom URL for their individual fundraising page. www.crowdrise.com/patsrun2018 HERE ARE SOME TIPS THAT CAN HELP YOU FUNDRAISE MORE EFFECTIVELY: PERSONALIZE YOUR STORY. People give to the story involved with the cause. The more they connect with your story, the more likely it is that they will make a donation. Hook them in and tell them why you re running Pat s Run with your own words, pictures or even videos. If you re inspired by Pat s story, or the story of a particular Tillman Scholar, feel free to share their stories by adding one of our YouTube videos to your page. You can edit your page by selecting the EDIT FUNDRAISER tab and utilize the MANAGE CAMPAIGN tab to access social messaging tools to share your fundraiser with your friends and family. ADOPT A DIVERSE APPROACH AND MESSAGE LIKE CRAZY Personalized, direct messages work best when it comes to driving donations, but it s important to use every available channel to share the impact your fundraising has on Pat Tillman Foundation s mission. Give your donors a creative reason to donate now (or donate again). It can be as simple as cooking dinner for the next person to give $200 or doing their laundry for a week. Providing tangible points of reference can help motivate donors and make your fundraising campaign relatable. Have fun with it and be sure to make time to enjoy this rewarding process. PERSONALIZE YOUR THANK-YOU EMAIL TO DONORS. An immediate thank you goes a long way. Customize the text that appears in your automatic thank you email when someone makes a donation to your page. In your messaging, encourage them to check back on your fundraising progress as you attempt to reach your goal. HAVE A PRESENCE ON SOCIAL MEDIA Use Facebook and Twitter to update people about your training. Don t forget about Instagram and Snapchat as new ways to share content with your followers. Celebrate milestones, show your blistered toes, or share your new training playlist. Remember, not every post needs to include an ask. SHARE YOUR FUNDRAISER! It can be daunting figuring out where to start asking for donations. The easiest places to start are your social networks and your friends. Copy the link to your page and paste it into emails, Facebook and Twitter to send it out. It s not just about mass blasts, though. It s the personal emails and calls that really make a difference. Try calling just five people to start!

For the 14th Annual Pat s Run, we anticipate more than 30,000 participants in Tempe and thousands more at Tillman Honor Runs in 30+ other cities nationwide.
