DEPARTMENT OF THE NAVY HEADQUARTERS UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS WASHINGTON, DC 20380-0001 MCO 10200.8 PST MARINE CORPS ORDER 10200.8 From: Commandant of the Marine Corps To: Distribution List Subj: MATERIEL FIELDING PLAN (MFP) FOR THE TOOL SET, FIELD MAINTENANCE (FM), 4TH ECHELON, FOR DETROIT DIESEL FAMILY OF ENGINES Ref: (a) MCO P5000.10C (b) MCO P4105.3 Encl: (1) Materiel Fielding Plan (MFP) for the Tool Set, FM, 4th Echelon, for the Detroit Diesel Family of Engines 1. Purpose. To provide guidance per references (a) and (b) to sustain the tool set and to document the circumstances under which the tool set was developed. 2. Information. Circa 1984 an ad hoc Tool Sets, Kits and Chests Standardization and Modernization Committee uncovered a duplication of components while reviewing special tool sets associated with tactical vehicles powered by Detroit Diesel engines. Subsequently SL-3-08827A, for a single tool set (Tool Set, FM, 4th Echelon for Detroit Diesel Family of Engines, TAMCN C6617) was developed by extracting components from three other tool sets. C6617 was later changed to C9670. Additional SAC-1 tools were procured and force-fed to using units by Commanding General (Code 835-2), Marine Corps Logistics Base, Albany, GA to complete the tool set. Using units were given a special allowance pending completion of certain actions. These actions were never formally documented. This Order corrects that deficiency. No new/additional items will be issued as a result of publication of this MFP. The enclosure is for record purposes and a basis for further action. 3. Action a. Gaining Command. Per paragraph 4 of the enclosure. b. CG MCRDAC. Per paragraph 4 of the enclosure. c. CG MCLB, Albany, GA. Per paragraph 4 of the enclosure. d. The CMC (LPP-4). Per paragraph 4 of the enclosure.

4. Reserve Applicability. This Order is applicable to the Marine Corps Reserve. DISTRIBUTION: PCN 10211013600 Copy to: 7000110 (55) 7230054, 055 (5) 8145005 (2) 7000106, 144/8145001 (1) 2

1. Introduction MATERIEL FIELDING PLAN (MFP) FOR THE TOOL SET, FM 4TH ECHELON, FOR THE DETROIT DIESEL FAMILY OF ENGINES a. Source of Requirement. The Marine Corps has a variety of tactical equipment that utilizes Detroit Diesel engines. A requirement exists for 4th echelon maintenance facilities to possess certain engine tools/instruments for repair of these items. This effort is part of an overall program to standardize and modernize tool sets, kits, and chests. b. Points of Contact TITLE NAME UNIT/CODE COMMERCIAL/ (AV) Project Mr. R. Synder CG MCRDAC (703) 696-1157 Officer (PST-A) (DSN) 226-1157 Item Ms. P. Crawford CG MCLB (912) 439-6535 Manager Albany, GA (DSN) 567-6535 (Code 835-1) c. Fielding Methodology. No new or additional assets will be fielded with the publication of this Order. In 1984 (approximately), a HQMC ad hoc Tools Sets, Kits, and Chests Standardization and Modernization Committee developed Tool Sets, FM, 4th Echelon for the Detroit Diesel Family of Engines, TAMCN C6617, to provide 4th echelon maintenance shops with a full a full complement of tools and instruments to support the full range of Detroit Diesel engines. The Commanding General (Code 835-1) Marine Corps Logistics Base, Albany, GA, was tasked (and funded) to procure and distribute additional tools for the set. Engine tools were also extracted from the three tool sets listed below for inclusion into C6617. (1) Tool Set, Field and Depot Maintenance, 4th and 5th Echelon, for Landing Vehicle, Tracked, LVTP7 Family of Vehicles, NSN 5180-00-476-1831, SL-3-07431A. (2) Tool Kit, Euclid Tractor (Special); 2d Echelon, NSN 5180-00-800-3394; 3d Echelon, NSN 5180-00-800-3395; 4th Echelon, NSN 5180-00-800-3400; SL-3-06884 applies to all three NSN s. 1

(3) Tool Kit, 4th and 5th Echelon, Field and Depot Maintenance (General Support), Special Set, 1 1/4 Ton, 6X6 Truck, Cargo, M561 and Truck, Ambulance, M792, NSN 4910-00-880-4287, SL-3-06642A. Additionally, TAMCN C6617 was subsequently changed to C9670. For using units with components to tool set TAMCN C9670) missing, locally funded requisitions must be submitted to correct the deficiency. For using units that cannot account for end item assets, after local research and documentation of the circumstances, submit a requisition for the deficient asset per routine procedures. d.
