Go Green in the City 2014 ends with a Grand Finale and Winners Announcement in Paris. June 20, 2014 Go Green in the City 2014, global business case challenge launched by Schneider Electric and organized by Student Competitions, came to a close with the Grand Finale event held at the company head quarters in Paris. Besides the final presentations of their ideas on efficient energy management, the top 12 teams enjoyed four action-packed days of business workshops, networking events, city tours, and the opportunity to interact with employees and experience the working environment at Schneider Electric. In this year s tough competition, Lee Man Ki and Jin Deng Keith Chan of team EnerBy from Hong Kong, walked away with the winner s cheque, while teams from New Zealand and Vietnam came in at a close 2 nd and 3 rd places respectively. And the list does not end there: Utsav Soni and Pratibha Rajput from India won the Employee Choice Award. Placing themselves at the forefront of current environmental issues, the leading energy management company Schneider Electric challenged participants with the lofty task of developing an idea for intelligent and efficient energy management for smarter cities. The winning idea tackled the task at hand in a creative manner by bringing the element of smartphones into the concept of building smarter cities: the team aims to reach out to consumers mindfulness through their proposed mobile application that could monitor, analyze, and manage energy consumption activities. This edition of Go Green in the City was more global than ever before, attracting over 12,000 students from 159 countries to sign up, from which 803 twomember teams from 462 universities worldwide submitted complete entries. Go Green in the City 2014 announces the top 12 finalist teams April 17, 2014 The top 12 finalist teams for the fourth edition of Go Green in the City have been announced. The finalists were selected from 100 semi-finalist teams: 90 teams participated in the global semi-finals, whereas teams from East Asia competed in the zone finals on April 4 for a place in the top 12. This edition of Go Green in the City was more global than ever before attracting over 12,000 students from 159 countries to sign up. Selected finalists will represent the following countries: Brazil, Canada, China - Hong Kong SAR, Egypt, France, India, Japan, New Zealand, Russian Federation, Turkey, United States, and Vietnam. The finalist teams have now been invited to Paris, France for the final presentation of their idea in front of the prominent jury comprised of the highlevel managers, which will take place June 17-21, 2014. During the five actionpacked days in Paris they will also get a chance to get to know the people of Schneider Electric and attend career-building workshops. The top 12 finalist teams will compete for the grand prize trip around the world, visiting two Schneider Electric offices along the way, and an exclusive job opportunity with Schneider Electric. In preparing their semi-finals submission, participants were paired up with a thought leader, or mentor, from Schneider Electric, who guided them in developing an innovative solution for an efficient energy management and preparing a written synopsis and a video presentation of their idea. Now the finalists will continue their collaboration with the mentors from Schneider Electric in preparing a strong case for the final presentation. During the finals, participants will describe their idea during the 15-minute oral presentation, which will be followed by a Q&A session with the Jury Panel. After the oral presentations of all 12 finalist teams, the jury will choose one team as a winner, which will be announced at the end of the Final day of team presentations. Go Green in the City 2014 announces the semi-finalist teams March 01, 2014 The semi-finalist teams for the fourth edition of Go Green in the City have been announced. Out of the total 100 semi-finalist teams, 90 teams have been announced on the competition website. The remaining 10 teams from East Asia will be announced separately by the country managers, as they will compete in a separate semi-final event. This year s competition saw a record 12,581 registered participants from 159 countries, making the competition truly global. 803 teams from 53 countries completed the competition. In line with Schneider Electric s gender balance standards, each team was made up of two business or engineering bachelor, master or MBA students, at least one of who had to be female. Placing themselves at the forefront of current environmental issues, leading energy management company Schneider Electric challenged participants with the lofty task of developing an idea for intelligent and efficient energy management for smarter cities. All applications were evaluated on the same criteria; the most important selection criteria were innovativeness of the idea relating to sustainable initiatives to reduce energy consumption and its business fit with Schneider Electric s mission. For the first time in the competition s history, students from all over the world could participate in Go Green in the City. During the initial stage of the competition participants also engaged in smaller contests within the competition framework and gained access to useful insights for the Smart Cities concept that would help them develop their innovative ideas. Throughout the duration of the three-month competition, the three teams with the highest score were selected as Go Green Champs and received a unique opportunity for an interview with the former competition winners or Schneider Electric mentors. At the same time participants could show their social networking skills and spread the word about Go Green in the City while competing for the Social Media Award. As we head into the second phase of the competition, students will be paired up with a fellow thought leader or mentor from Schneider Electric. The team and the mentor will work collaboratively to elaborate their creative solutions for efficient energy management and create a written synopsis and a video presentation of their idea. The deadline for semi-final submissions is March 30, 2014. Finalists will be announced on April 17, 2014 and the finale event in Paris will take place between June 17-21, 2014. Go Green in the City September 30, 2013 In cooperation with Student Competitions, leading global specialist in energy management, Schneider Electric, is soon launching its fourth annual edition of Go Green in the City. Go Green in the City is an international business case competition that challenges students to come up with innovative solutions for efficient energy management. This exciting and innovative competition is not only a great opportunity for students to learn about the latest in the fields of energy, technology and business but also provides them with a plethora of opportunities to develop a strong career foundation. Unlike previous years, this year the competition is open to students across the globe. Students sign up in teams of 2, where at least one team member has to be a female candidate. The participants will test their knowledge in energy management, sustainability and the company responsible for making it all happen Schneider Electric. In addition to answering the multiple-choice quizzes, students will submit their ideas for efficient energy management. A real value add in the competition is the Mentor Phase. After successfully completing the initial competition steps and being selected as one of the top 100 participants, students will pair up with a fellow thought leader or a Mentor from Schneider Electric. The team and the mentor will work collaboratively to elaborate their (the teams) creative solutions for efficient energy management and create a written synopsis and a video presentation of their idea. By bringing together competition participants and field experts, participants will have the benefit of receiving expert advice, support and mentorship from Schneider Electric employees. The mentors will offer invaluable insight and expertise to elevate the ideas and challenge the teams to think big. Based on the submitted presentation of their ideas, the top ten to twelve teams will be invited to present their ideas in front of a VIP panel of judges at the finale event in Paris in June 2014. Building on the success of the first three years edition Schneider Electric launches a new concept of the international case competition Go Green in the City Rueil-Malmaison (France), November 21, 2013 Schneider Electric, the global specialist in energy management, launched the fourth edition of Go Green in the City, a global business case challenge focusing on innovative energy solutions for cities. Throughout the prior three competition periods, Schneider Electric found tremendous success and strong interest from students and universities, confirming Schneider Electric's growing international appeal. The increased interest in energy issues from students all over the world--and particularly new economies--was pivotal in developing and launching a new and extended edition of the contest to countries across the globe. The Go Green in the City 2014 case challenge is now positioned as the definitive global student competition for green energy solutions. The increased global interest in the contest demonstrates that future engineers are more aware that the increasing demand for electrical power needs to be balanced with social awareness and environmental protection. Besides opening the competition to all countries across the globe, the event aims to increase the global, local and online exposure of the contest and identify candidates for local country recruitment activity. From November 15, 2013, to February 15, 2014, business and engineering bachelor (2nd year and on), master or MBA students are welcome to join the challenge and form two member teams, with at least one of the members being a female. Each team will submit an idea for viable energy management solutions within one of the five basic urban sectors (residential, university, business, water and hospitals). To gain expert tips and a unique insight into one of the leading energy management companies of the world, students can unlock a creative challenge through a new online game quiz on smart cities thematic. So far, more than 1744 pre-registrations representing 81 nationalities have already been received. On February 28, 2014, the 100 semi-finalist teams will be announced and will have a month to work on a case study with the help of a Schneider Electric employee mentor. They will create a synopsis and a video business case for their idea and submit them for evaluation. Then, the 12 best teams will be invited to Paris in June 2014 to compete in the live final at our global headquarters in Rueil- Malmaison.
