Upcoming Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC) Meeting and Open House (Attached) Thurs. May 4, Marina Comm,. Center (Tital Auditorium), 6:30 PM On February 7, 2011, the City Council approved the formation of a Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC) to guide the development and implementation of bicycle and pedestrian facilities in the City. The BPAC is comprised of 11 members, with one member representing each of the Council Districts, plus five at-large members. The selected members represent both bicyclist and pedestrian constituents

Cinco de Mayo event Friday May 5, Civic Center Plaza, 901 E. 14 th St.,, 6:00 PM The Annual Cinco de Mayo Celebration promises to be a fun celebration of Mexico s culture and traditions. This popular event will feature regional Mexican dances performed by Ballet Folklorico Costa de Oro and the music of Mariachi Halcones de Oakland. Arts and crafts will be provided for the children, and free light refreshments will be served. Food will also be available for purchase. Spanish and ASL Sign Language translation will be provided and admission is free. A Tribute to the Beach Boys (Attached) Sat. Residential Energy Efficiency Home Upgrade Event (Attached) Wed. May 10, Main Library (Lecture Hall): 300 Estudillo Ave., 6:00 PM 8:00 PM San Leandro and StopWaste are hosting a workshop to promote the residential energy efficiency program, Home Upgrade. The attached letters and flyer were mailed to a targeted group of homeowners who are likely participants in the Home Energy program. Criteria for the targeted households included: single-family homes built in 1960 or earlier and household incomes ranging from $65,000 to $250,000. Targeted marketing also included certain neighborhoods with higher-than-average electricity usage and includes a gentle competitive challenge. There are two versions of the attached invitation letter which reflect this targeted messaging. San Leandro Announces Grant Opportunity for Youth Programs The City of San Leandro Youth Advisory Commission (YAC) announced the release of the 2016-17 Youth Mini Grant program. This innovative annual program provides grant funding to support organizations or programs that are youth-driven and have a positive impact on San Leandro youth. The total funding available for this year s mini-grant program is $1,500. Applications are available online, at the Marina Community and at the Senior Community Center. The Commission is currently accepting applications through Tuesday, April 25, 2017. Final San Leandro Creek Trail Master Plan Study The City of San Leandro, City of Oakland, Rails-To-Trails Conservancy, and Merritt College announced the release of the Final San Leandro Creek Trail Master Plan Study on April 10, 2017 and completion of the grant study process. The Final Study is available for download at the project website. The public is also encouraged to follow the Bicycle & Pedestrian Master Plan 2017, a policy document guiding the development of facilities to enhance bicycling and walking. 2
New Web Version Of My-SL Launched The City is proud to announce an all new web version of My-SL. This just-launched update features a brand new layout, which is more intuitive, easier to use, and has a better mapping system. The public is encouraged to create a personal account and continue sending the City their 311 requests by logging onto the website. The following stories were posted since last week: New Industrial Development Coming to Marina Boulevard San Leandro by Design Returns With a Focus on Manufacturing San Leandro Biz FreeWire Technologies Takes Its Product Nationwide News from Other Agencies In Partnership with Climatec, City Receives Notice of $1,995,953 Proposed Award from the California Energy Commission s Local Government Challenge On January 6, 2017, the California Energy Commission released a competitive solicitation to fund projects that stimulate innovation in building energy efficiency and developing or implementing climate action plans. Up to $10.2 million in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funding was available to fund applications from local governments in two groups: the Energy Innovation Challenge and the Small Government Leadership Challenge. The proposal submitted by the City and Climatec, known as the Innovative Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Deployment Project, will implement high-efficiency LED lighting, a new building automation system, and a 1 MW solar photovoltaic power generation system at the City s Water Pollution Control Plant (WPCP), the largest single energy user of all of the City s facilities. The project is designed to reduce the WPCP s reliance on grid-produced power by 53%, decrease 2.8M pounds of greenhouse gas emissions, and save $238,861 in annual utility costs. Once completed, this project will serve as a model that will be showcased to other local governments throughout the state, in hopes of replicating similar efforts elsewhere. San Leandro was one of only four entities proposed for an award under the CEC s Energy Innovation Challenge. The grant requires an equal match from the City, with funding coming from the WPCP s Enterprise Fund. 3
