Graduates and spectators, The following rules are to be followed to ensure an organized and successful graduation: 1. Stay seated. 2. Absolutely no noisemakers, balloons, signs, etc. 3. There will be metal detectors at all entrances. To help the line move more efficiently, please carry your cap and gown in your hands when entering the Virginia Beach Convention Center instead of wearing them. 4. The room in which all the graduates will be waiting before the ceremony cannot be re-entered after the ceremony. DO NOT bring any bags or purses with you. There is nowhere to leave belongings. 5. The Virginia Beach Convention Center has also asked that students do not bring any camera bags, tote bags, wrapped packages or cell phones to the ceremony. Parents and guests are welcome to bring the aforementioned, but may be subject to search. Again, congratulations on your graduation!
RECEIVING YOUR DIPLOMA 1. Staff marshals will signal each row to stand. You will exit to the outside of your row. 2. As you approach the podium, hand your index card to the faculty reader and pronounce your name to him or her if necessary. 3. You will receive a diploma cover from Dr. Riesbeck. After she shakes your hand, continue across the stage and down the stairs where you will receive your actual diploma from a guidance counselor before walking down the center aisle to your seat. Upon returning to your seat, sit down. Do not wait for the others in your row to return. 4. After the last senior has received a diploma, Dr. Riesbeck will present the candidates for graduation and make the official announcement that you have graduated. Move your tassel from the right to the left when instructed. Stand quietly for the benediction. Boys will remove their hats. 5. An orderly recessional following the declaration of graduation will follow the ceremony. Please wait for instructions from the podium. This adds an air of dignity to the graduation ceremony. To the Graduating Class of 2015: This handbook, published by the Class of 2015, contains the information you, the graduating senior, need to know regarding commencement activities. Read it carefully; keep it handy. If you have any questions or problems, please see the senior sponsors, Mrs. Clement and Ms. Pugliese. 14
