Engeye Health, Ddegeya, Uganda Summer 2016 University at Albany School of Public Health/ Center for Global Health International Internship APPLICATION FORM Summer 12-week International Internship working with the Engeye Health in Ddegeya, Uganda (http://www.engeye.org/) offers a broad array of experiences related to public health practice in a developing country context. The Engeye Public Health Program Intern will serve as an analyst and clinical specialist, working as part of the Engeye team to plan, manage, and/or evaluate our local collaborative public health programs, projects, and/or study activities, as well as advising in the coordination of activities related to clinical developments in order to improve access to health care, improve health outcomes and improve the quality of overall health care services. Major duties may include the following: Assisting in short and long term program/service planning, program implementation and analysis, and program evaluations for activities involving collaboration between Engeye Health Clinic and the local community Assisting in the establishment of program standards, policies, strategies, goals, and evaluation plans regarding disease/epidemiological surveillance Collecting and interpreting data and information from a variety of sources and preparing recommendations and reports accordingly Preparing and making presentations to clinical staff on data analysis results from patient chart reviews targeting quality improvement initiatives Serving as liaison, committee member, or similar point of contact with internal and external representatives Job assignments will include these specific objectives: 1. Completion of monthly HMIS and Child Days Plus reports on behalf of Engeye Health Clinic (EHC) for timely submission to the district office. 2. Make recommendations for improvements to clinical practices and management procedures or policies by being based on-site at the EHC and based on review of clinical findings from EMR chart review 3. Improve continuing health education training for our local parish Village Health Team members, including updating curriculum and hosting training sessions 4. Assist in the establishment and sustainability of community health data collection and feedback in collaboration with the Village Health Teams and the local district government, specifically targeting maternal and child health 5. Assist in assessing impact or effectiveness of public health program initiatives in meeting Engeye s organizational objectives 6. Prepare reports for updating the executive and advisory boards on existing community collaboration programs 7. Participate in fund-raising and grant-writing for service provision and program initiatives 8. Evaluate current occupational safety practices, identify on-site occupational health needs, and help with implementation of recommendations Onsite Housing and Meals: Engeye Health Interns are provided safe and secure housing as well as meals at the clinic site at a special reduced and highly affordable daily rate.
