April 17, 2009 Developing Engineers from A to Z for the Future of Oklahoma Tulsa Technology Center Riverside Campus Jenks, Oklahoma
DEAR EXHIBITOR OR SPONSOR: We are writing to request your support for the TULSA ENGINEERING FOUNDATION S 21 st annual Tulsa Engineering Challenge (TECh). This year s theme is Developing Engineers from A to Z for the Future of Oklahoma. The Tulsa Engineering Foundation (TEF) is a 501 (c)(3) not for profit organization, which will be hosting the Tulsa Engineering Challenge (TECh) on April 17, 2009, at the Tulsa Technology Center, Riverside Campus, in Jenks, Oklahoma. The event provides a forum to test Tulsa area youths math, science and engineering skills in a fun, hands-on learning environment, and is geared towards students from grades 6 through 12. In 2008, 34 schools (15 high, 17 middle and 2 elementary) with over 600 students and 580 team entries participated in the 10 pre-registered contests during the April 9 th, 2008 event. 275 students competed in the Aluminum Boat walk-in contest and large numbers also enjoyed the Mini-Math and Oil Well Fishing events. The TECh committee included the Engineering Management class project from OSU-Tulsa, who coordinated donations and exhibitors, bringing the revenue budget to double that of previous years. A Digital Logo contest was added yielding a logo for future promotions, and the students won ipods and scientific calculators. Free lunches were provided for all attendees. Prize funds of $5,825 plus in-kind awards were distributed to the student s schools. Print and TV media covered the event at an unprecedented level. This year, we are again looking for technologically savvy prizes for the winning entries. Prizes such as computers, laptops, cell phones, game systems, science kits, scientific calculators, ipods, Personal Data Assistants, etc. are being considered as appropriate prizes for the students. We are adding a digital poster competition, a minimum of four hands on workshops, a maintenance pit for the students to make improvements to their entries, and the Chemical Magic Show will be returning. We will also design one Extreme Engineering competition, which will be a surprise until the day of the event. We are also planning for an academic olympiad game show style competition. We hope to provide laptops for the winners. The event takes many dedicated volunteers and sponsors to provide the leadership, expertise and resources needed to make it successful. Currently, the planning team is seeking sponsors for various costs including prizes, prize money, individual competition event sponsors, meal sponsorships, and giveaways (such as pencils, pens, rulers, gadgets). Enclosed you will find the list of each contest with the opportunity for naming rights of the contest. We are also seeking exhibitors from the surrounding community to demonstrate new technologies and/or processes to the students while they wait to compete. If you have a new technology or process to show-off to the youth in our community, this would be a great opportunity! Our youth are our future. They will be designing tomorrow s technologies and providing future businesses. It is our responsibility to inspire and lead them to become our next scientists and inventors. We hope you or your company will consider helping in the 2009 Tulsa Engineering Challenge by donating your valuable resources to this cause and joining our prior year s Platinum
