Milhous Now entering her ninth season as Head Field Hockey Coach at Villanova University, Joanie Q. Milhous continues to achieve her goal of making Villanova one of the most respected programs in the BIG EAST Conference. The Wildcats concluded the 2002 season with their second consecutive Conference-championship game appearance, dropping a 3-1 decision to UConn. Milhous currently owns a 79-84-0 record at the helm of the Cats, with an overall mark of 101-124-4 during her 12 seasons as coach. On Wednesday Sept. 19, 2001 Milhous earned her 59th career victory and became the all-time winningest field hockey coach at Villanova when the Wildcats defeated West Chester, 3-1, at Villanova Stadium. Her players continue to excel in the classroom as well, with nine players earning BIG EAST All-Academic honors last season. Milhous served as President of the Big East Conference Field Hockey Site Committee in 1998 and is currently the Vice President of Big East Field Hockey. A native of Wynnewood, Pa., Milhous and her husband Stowe reside in Gulph Mills, Pa. with their three children, Stowe Jr. (2) and newborn twins, Tucker and Madison.
City Six Premiere: Today s game marks the first for Villanova in the 2003 City Six, a group made up of Philadelphia-area schools Drexel, La Salle, Pennsylvania, St. Joseph s, Temple and Villanova. Last season, the Wildcats went 3-1 against their local rivals, with Temple being the only team the Cats did not play. Coming Off a Loss: Villanova is looking to bounce back from Sunday s 4-3 defeat at the hands of Delaware. The only other time the Wildcats have come off a loss this season, they responded with a 3-1 victory over Stanford. That game followed the 2003 season opener, a 2-0 loss to Pacific. Last season, head coach Joanie Q. Milhous s squad was 4-4-0 following a loss. More Freshmen Fireworks: Against Delaware, the Wildcats got more offense from their highly-regarded freshman class. Megan Foster scored two goals, the first two of her collegiate career. For the season, Villanova s freshmen have scored seven of the team s 25 points. Three in a Row for Rogers: With her second half goal against Delaware, sophomore forward Rory Rogers has now scored a goal in three consecutive games for the Cats. Rogers currently leads Villanova in goals with six, shots with 15 and game-winning goals with two. She is tied for the team lead in points with six and her 10 shots on goal is just one shy of the team lead. On the Road Again: Villanova s season-opening journey away from Villanova Stadium continues, as the Cats play their fifth consecutive road/neutral site game against Drexel on the campus of St. Joseph s University. So far, the Wildcats own a 2-1 record in away games, and they dropped their only decision at a neutral site. Villanova s season opener is just one week away, when the Cats will welcome West Chester to the Main Line for a 7:00 p.m. game. Homecoming: Assistant coach Gina Rossi is back for her second stint as an assistant coach with the Villanova field hockey team. Rossi was a part of Milhous s staff from 2000-2001. She is no stranger to the Wildcat program, as she played for Milhous from 1996-99. Rossi currently ranks seventh all-time on the career goals chart. BIG EAST Blitz: Here is a look at how the rest of the conference fared in field hockey action over the weekend: Sat. - Rutgers 2, Columbia 1 Boston College 4, Ohio 0 Iowa 6, Syracuse 1 Temple 4, Providence 1 Sun. - Penn State 2, Connecticut 1 Rutgers 2, Dartmouth 0 Michigan 5, Boston College 3 Michigan State 9, Providence 1 GAME NOTES Scouting the Opposition: Drexel (0-2) - Wildcats hold a 17-6-1 edge in the all-time series...villanova won a double overtime contest last season at Villanova Stadium, 4-3...Last Drexel win came in 2001...Dragons enter the contest 0-2 after dropping a 2-1 decision to Virginia...Caliann Bogovich and Elizabeth Seidel have scored Drexel s goals this season.
