SUBMISSION ASSISTANCE FOR THE INITS AWARD 1. THE INiTS AWARD The INiTS awards innovative scientific works with prospect for economic applicability with the INiTS Award. 2. SUBMISSION CRITERIA The award is open to individuals who: have successfully concluded a research paper (scientific publication, PhD thesis, dissertation, diploma thesis, master thesis, bachelor thesis) at one of Vienna s universities OR study or have studied at one of Vienna s universities and have written the research paper at another university or research institution (domestic or foreign) and have got a positive mark on it. In any case the reference to one of Vienna s universities or to the Vienna University of Applied Sciences must be given. The academic work must have been positively evaluated between June 1 st, 2014 and July 31 st,, 2016. In a scientific publication the professional journal must be referred to. 1

DATES OF THE INiTS AWARD End of submission period: July 31 st, 2016 Award ceremony: October 20 th, 2016 5. THE SUBMISSION The following issues in regards to the idea must be processed: Introduction: Briefly describe the key messages of your academic work (max. 1,000 characters) Business idea: Describe your business idea, your product or your service (max. 1,200 characters) Customers & market: Who are your potential customers? How will you solve the customer s problem? (max. 1,200 characters) Feasibility/implementation: How would you implement your proposal? Would further steps be possible? Brief description of the public relations work of INiTS: Compose a short description about your work and the possible business idea for the public relations work of INiTS (max. 1,000 characters) 2

All work submitted by July 31 st, 2016 will be forwarded to a pre-selection of the jurors. The winners of the INiTS Awards 2016 will be announced and awarded at the awards ceremony on October 20 th, 2016. 6. TIPS FOR SUBMISSION The primary goal in answering the questions is that you consider the actual utilization possibilities of your idea and discover further application areas for your research results and bring them down on paper. By submitting, you are not to simply summarize your idea, but to convince the jurors of its utilization possibility and its chances of success. Sell us your idea! Try to inspire us! It is not just about submitting a scientific paper. In fact, it is about the marketing of the potential that lies therein. The INiTS Awards are to animate the applicants to think beyond the problem solution addressed in the scientific work and consider its economic value. Introduction (max. 1,000 characters) Please describe briefly the key messages of your scientific work. Readers should be able to immediately understand what it is about. Please note that the economic applicability of the work submitted will be also be judged by a juror, who may not be familiar with your specific area of knowledge. Avoid discipline-specific abbreviations. Marketing an idea also means to arouse interest and to inspire! Business idea (max. 1,200 characters) Describe your business idea, product or service: Presentation of the product or service: What do you offer? What is unique about your idea? What is your USP? From your point of view, why has this idea not yet been offered on the market? Describe how, in your opinion, the idea could be realized or utilized and what benefits would arise from it. Customers & market (max. 1,200 characters) Who are your customers and how will you solve the problem of your customers? Describe your potential audience: Who would you like to address? Describe the requirements and expectations of your potential customers: Which customer value does your product/your service present? Why/to what extent is there a need for your product/service? Which competing solutions are already available on the market? Feasibility & implementation (max. 1,200 characters) How could you implement your plan? What further steps could be taken? 3

Short description for the public relations work of INiTS (max. 1,000 characters) Please compose a short and easy-to-understand description of your project which will be used for the public relations work of INiTS. 7. EVALUATION CRITERIA Novelty of the product or service, innovative content of the research results Economic usability, feasability Below you will find a list of the evaluation criteria for the jurors: Introduction (0-5 points) Is the introduction concise and easy to understand? Does it wake interest in the project? Business idea (0-5 points) Is the product/service described clearly? Is the business idea presented clearly? Is the business idea innovative? Is there a clear USP? Is there a competitive advantage? Customers & market (0-5 points) Is the target group clearly presented? Does the target group seem suitable? Are the requirements/expectations of the customers represented accurately? Is the offer adapted to the target group? Are the requirements of the target group clearly described? Are they met with this offer? Is the competitive situation clearly presented? Feasibility/implementation (0-5 points) Is the implementation possible/realistic? 8. THE JURORS All entries will be evaluated by experts who are sworn to confidentiality. The jurors consist of coordinators of the academic institutions, sponsors, and INiTS experts. The assessment does not only determine the placement in the competition, but also shows the strengths and weaknesses of your concept. This feedback is supposed to support you in continuing your concrete work on your business idea. 4

Each submission will be evaluated by three jurors. In each category, the three submitters with the highest score will win. The evaluation within the Special Awards will be performed by an expert jury. QUESTIONS?
