After 12 years of construction and displacement, the Lakewood City Schools building project is coming to an end and the Lakewood Rangers Education Foundation is planning a celebration. On August 19, 2017, the first annual Lakewood Rangers Education Foundation Purple & Gold Gala will be held in the newly completed east addition of Lakewood High School. The event is a fundraiser to provide opportunities in academics, the arts, music, athletics and other educational enrichment for Lakewood students at every level of their education. We expect 400 people to gather in this impressive new space to celebrate and help us meet our goal of raising $60,000 for the continued future of diverse, high quality public education in Lakewood. The Foundation s mission since 1984 has been to bridge the gap between government funding and the extras we all agree every child deserves as part of a world class public education. We played a major supporting role throughout the school construction program and, with new facilities to support the best practices in 21 st century education, we seek to expand programming that will benefit not only our students but ultimately the greater Lakewood community. To do this, we want to partner with you. As a community leader, you understand the need for all students to have access to a world class education in order to prepare them for the challenges of a global economy. Your support is critical to reach and maintain this goal, to offer even more education opportunities through the lens of a diverse, accepting and vibrant school population. We hope that you will join with us as a leading sponsor of this effort. Should you wish to sit down and discuss your monetary donations, other specific benefit options or questions you might have, please contact any of the committee members below. Gala and Sponsor information may also be found on the Foundation at: www.lakewoodrangers.com/purple-gold-gala-2017/ We will follow up with you in a few weeks. Thank you for your generous support. Please know that your gift is important and makes a difference for every student. We can t do what we do without you. With warm regards, Vicki Smigelski Shannon Strachan Terri Richards Event Chair Sponsorship Chair Executive Director 216-789-5020 216-513-8762 216-529-4033

About the Lakewood Rangers Education Foundation (LREF) The Foundation was conceived by a forward-thinking group of teachers and administrators who saw the need to create an organization to raise and distribute funds that would bridge the gap between what government funding provides for public schools and what is really needed to ensure a world class education for Lakewood students. Since 1984, LREF has distributed over 3.2 million dollars to fund opportunities in academics, the arts, athletics, technology and more. LREF supports over 5,400 Lakewood students in all ten of our city schools. A few examples of the types of programs that the Lakewood Rangers Education Foundation supports from its restricted and unrestricted funds include: Scholarships for Graduating Seniors $25,000 funded in 2016 Teacher Grants for innovative classroom projects that support STEM curricula, the Arts, Health and Exercise, History, literacy and reading, classroom equipment for students with special needs, English as a second language and more. $20,000 in funding requested and $9,000 funded in 2016-2017. College Now Counselor at LHS counselor who specializes in college financial aid & application processes $45,000 annually Various school club support Model United Nations, Academic Challenge, etc. $2,000 annually Students in Need (Kindergarten high school) $1,000 Athletic camps, equipment and clinics $1,500 Manage endowed music funds - provides scholarships for music lessons (4 th 12 th grade) and instrument rent to own program $46,000 One Book, One School community reading program (elementary schools) $3,500- $5,000 Community artwork preservation (Early Settler and Great Lakes Sculptures) $10,000 The Lakewood City School District has had strong public support for the school rebuilding project through bond issues and tax levies. However, the Foundation and its generous donors provide funds for items and activities above and beyond the capabilities of the District s budget. Your generous support perpetuates and strengthens this tradition of excellence.
