Dr. Rendón is a nationally renowned educator, who for eight years, served as Professor in ASU s Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies. As a professor, mentor and active member of ASU s Chicano/Latino faculty community, she taught graduate level courses on Cultural Pluralism in Education, Professional Seminar in Higher Education and Student Diversity in Higher Education. She was also a member of the Research Faculty with the ASU s Hispanic Research Center. Upon Dr. Rendón s departure from ASU, and through her generosity, CLFSA endowed it s scholarship in her name. Each year, CLFSA pays tribute to her leadership; character and academic excellence by awarding scholarships to students whose academic merit demonstrate these same virtues that will impact the Chicano/Latino community. Arizona State University s Chicano/Latino Faculty and Staff Association (CLFSA) will select three to five students for the endowed Laura Rendón Scholarship for the 2011-2012 academic year. Scholarship amounts vary between $2,500 and $5,000 depending on need. To be considered for the scholarship, completed applications must be received or postmarked by March 15, 2011. Incomplete application packets will result in automatic disqualification. Minimum criteria: 1. Must be an incoming freshman, community college transfer or current ASU student. 2. Must be classified as an Arizona resident for tuition purposes (residency is determined at the time of application to ASU). 3. Applicants must be admitted to ASU as a full time undergraduate degree-seeking student for Fall 2011, carrying a minimum of 12 ASU credit hours each fall and spring semester in order for the scholarship to disburse; however, students are strongly encouraged to complete thirty (30) credit hours by the conclusion of the spring semester to remain on track to graduate within four years. ASU winter term courses as well as ASU-sponsored study-abroad courses are counted toward full-time credit-hour requirements. Summer session courses and consortium agreement courses, Advanced Placement credits, and transfer credits from other colleges/universities DO NOT satisfy full-time credit hour requirements for renewal eligibility. 4. Must have a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average. 5. Applicants must demonstrate financial need. a. Applicants must submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) 6. Preference is given to low income and first generation students. a. A first generation student is defined as neither of the student s parents has graduated with a baccalaureate degree from a college or university. Selection Process: 1. Selection will occur in the spring semester and fall awardees are announced in May. 2.
