The University of Utah Alumni Association 2016-17 Scholarship Application Each year, the Young Alumni Board acknowledges outstanding alumni at its traditional Spring Awards Banquet. At that time, the Young Alumni Board also presents an incoming freshman undergraduate student with the in the amount of $6,000. The scholarship is awarded to a student who 1) is a first-generation college student or represents at-risk and underrepresented student populations, 2) demonstrates financial need, and 3) will enhance the diversity of the student body at the University of Utah. Minimum Eligibility Requirements. Applicant must: Be an incoming freshman at the University of Utah for the 2016-17 academic year Have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 in high school Be a first-generation college student or represent at-risk and underrepresented student populations Demonstrate financial need Enhance the diversity of the student body at the University of Utah Not be a current recipient of an athletic scholarship at the University of Utah Be able to attend the Spring Awards Banquet on April 6, 2016 Include: (1) a one-page sealed letter of recommendation from an employer, teacher/professor, or community service professional, and (2) a one- to two-page, single-sided, double-spaced essay explaining how the applicant fulfills the mission of the scholarship, which is to support undergraduate students with demonstrated financial need and to enhance the diversity of the student body at the University of Utah by providing assistance to first-generation college students, as well as at-risk and underrepresented student populations. Academic performance, other scholarships, and community service may also be considered in the selection process.
