GOAL Join your colleagues and gain the latest updates and practice guidelines in cardiovascular care! This full-day symposium offers a comprehensive review of new diagnostic techniques and therapeutic treatments, the latest clinical trials, and stateof-the-art technology in contemporary cardiovascular medicine using concise didactic presentations, combined with panel discussions and case presentations. Electronic handouts will be made available to conference attendees. Following this course, the participant should be able to formulate a practical approach to common cardiovascular disorders; identify the appropriate tests that can be used to determine the severity of the patient problem and make an accurate diagnosis; discuss the various treatment options available; and recognize how to treat and when to refer cardiac patients. This activity is expected to result in increased confidence in making a diagnosis and providing effective treatment, referral, and follow-up care with the overall goal of improving patient outcomes. TARGET AUDIENCE Family physicians, internists, cardiologists, cardiovascular thoracic surgeons, advance practice providers, nurses, allied health professionals, and other health care professionals who treat and care for patients with heart disease will benefit from attending this educational activity. OBJECTIVES At the conclusion of this activity, the participant should be able to: Discuss the detrimental effects of oxygen for the cardiac patient List parameters for appropriate use of oxygen in the cardiac patient Identify key risks for cardiac patients undergoing noncardiac surgery Discuss the pros and cons of cryoablation List the current anticoagulants available for use Discuss appropriate use of the newest novel anticoagulants for your patient Discuss roles of physician, nurse educator, and outpatient clinic and successful communication tactics for congestive heart failure patients to encourage compliance and reduce readmission Review areas of cardiovascular disease and treatment Review interesting cases and cutting-edge treatments in cardiovascular medicine Describe the effect of sleep apnea on cardiac patients List key elements of sleep apnea evaluation for inpatients Review contemporary management of anemia in cardiovascular surgical patients Review areas of cardiovascular disease and treatment DISCLOSURE Faculty for this activity have been required to disclose all relationships with any proprietary entity producing health care goods or services, with the exemption of nonprofit or government organizations and non-health-care-related companies.

AMA ACCREDITATION The University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. AMA DESIGNATION The University of Pittsburgh designates this live activity for a maximum of 6.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. Other health care professionals are awarded 0.6 continuing education units (CEUs), which are equal to 6.0 contact hours. NURSING ACCREDITATION UPMC Hamot is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center s Commission on Accreditation.
