February 2016 Leicester, MA Page 2 UPCOMING TRIPS: As many times as we have warned seniors about Scams, Frauds, Identity Thefts, etc. we still have too many who fall prey to it all. Recently a senior received a phone call from the IRS with a threatening message (they DO NOT call-they write) and paid out over $8,000 as she thought her husband had forgotten to pay their tax bill. If you get a phone call and the caller ID says IRS, HANG UP. If they want to do an AUDIT or need to get in touch with you they send you a letter. The IRS Phone Scam is the biggest fraud in IRS history. They have managed to steal over $26 million from victims. If you get a phone call with your own phone number as Caller ID, WEIRD NO, not at all. It is probably a caller from anywhere in the world. Again, HANG UP or better DO NOT ANSWER THAT PHONE. Recently one of our seniors received fake $100 bills and has not been able to recover her loss. Even if you get large bills from a bank, GET THEM CHECKED OUT. Especially $100 bills. Our Chief of Police advises our seniors about latest crimes and frauds every month at our breakfast. Come eat and stay informed. Rachelle Friday, February 12, 2016, Foxwoods Resort and Casino Tour, leaves 8:00 a.m. $24 per person Friday, March 11, 2016, Foxwoods Resort and Casino Tours, leaves 8:00 a.m. $24 per person Call Joan Wall for additional information at: 508-892-3967. Make all checks payable to her. Barbara s To all of our volunteers. Let me thank you for a wonderful year of personal enjoyment, friendship building at our senior center. Whether you offered your services at the center or by visiting those who were lonely, your volunteerism is a gift of the heart. We cannot thank you enough. We want to remind people that if they are going to attend scheduled activities at the senior center to please call to register. All too often we have cancelled events for lack of registration. Mark your calendars as a reminder. Especially our pen pal folks because the kids are waiting for these wonderful letters. The next due date for these is February 8th. Let us not disappoint the kids. Barbara PLEASE NOTE IF THE NUTRITION SITE (MEALS ON WHEELS) IS CLOSED THE SENIOR CENTER IS CLOSED.
