Hill Country District Junior Livestock Show Association Collegiate Scholarship Application Scholarship Guidelines: The goal of the Association is to award to Kerr County 4-H & FFA High School Graduates, as well as District 4-H & FFA High School Graduates scholarships to deserving applicants, regardless of their intended major. Eligibility Requirements: 1. Be a graduating High School Senior. 2. Have an overall GPA of 2.5 or better on a 4.0 system. 3. Kerr County applicants must have resided in the county during their Jr. & Sr. year of High School. 4. District applicants must have resided in the District during their Jr. & Sr. year of High School. 5. All applicants must have participated in 4-H and/or FFA for at least 4 years. 6. All applicants must attend a Texas College or University in the Fall of 2018. 7. All applicants must have participated in the Hill Country District Junior Livestock Show any 2 of the previous 4 years. Application Requirements: 1. Complete this application in full as instructed. The more legible, the better the image you present, so typing is recommended. 2. Attach an official copy of your high school transcript PLUS an official copy of your SAT and/or ACT scores. 3. Attach the included Scholastic Record completed by your principal or counselor. 4. Attach three letters of recommendation that are current and originally signed. One letter should be from each of the following people: A 4-H or FFA affiliate: Your County Extension Agent, 4-H Program Coordinator, 4-H Club Manager, or your FFA agriculture teacher. A personal recommendation from a non-relative. An academic recommendation from a teacher or administrator. 5. Attach a 2 X 3 inch head and shoulders photograph of yourself that can be used for publicity. 6. All required forms, letters, & photo must come in ONE package. 7. All applications and ALL attachments must be postmarked no later than March 1 st. Mail to: HCDJLS c/o Lindsey Forster P.O. Box 291217 Kerrville, TX 78029 8. Interviews will be conducted during the week of April. You will be notified in advance of where and when your interview will be. 9. Scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis. However, the total individual will be taken into consideration. Active participation in promoting agriculture, academics, and a hearty involvement in other activities will all play a role in the process.

10. Awards will be announced mid-may. All scholarship money will be paid directly to the College or University in your name. It will be the responsibility of the recipient to ensure that tuition is paid in full by the deadline set forth by the College or University. Recipient Obligations: 1. By accepting these scholarships, recipients are obligated to assist the Association in their primary events. HCDJLS Fund-raiser in September HCDJLS Auction in January 2. Should a recipient encounter an unforeseen college conflict or personal emergency that prevents them from fulfilling their obligations, then in kind contributions of hours must be pre-arranged and preapproved by the Scholarship Committee Chairman. Pre-approved work must consist of a minimum of 10 hours and be described in writing with a signature of the overseeing official. Only work associated with the preparation or completion of the Hill Country District Jr Livestock Show, Hill Country District Jr Livestock Show Sale, Fundraiser, or other HCDJLS events will be allowed. 3. Recipients must provide requested biographical information to be utilized for promotional material by the HCDJLS Association. Procedures for Receiving Scholarship Funding: 1. Submit to Lindsey Forster, Scholarship Co-Chairman. a. Applicants college mailing address b. Applicants personal phone number c. Applicants personal e-mail address. (Most communication will be done via e-mail.) 2. In order to fund your scholarship, applicants will need to provide: a. Registration Receipt with: i. Social Security and/or Student ID number ii. courses applicant are registered for iii. An official list of course work. b. The address of the office to which the scholarships funds must be sent. 3. Those enrolled in special technical or vocational programs that do not meet the minimum requirements of the scholarship (i.e. hours per semester) must write and explain why. 4. Upon registration for the Spring semester, students must provide a Fall transcript with proof of a minimum GPA of 2.5 and successful completion of at least 12 hours (full time student status). 5. Part 1: Name and location of your 4 H or FFA Chapter and years you participated. Part 2: List your HCDJLS Livestock Projects and years attended, as well as, all other shows attended and awards received. Please tell us which were the most rewarding to you and why. Part 3: List any 4 H or FFA sanctioned non-livestock activities such as leadership teams or judging teams that you were involved with.

Part 4: Please tell us about your involvement in community service projects and what role your leadership skills have played in the success of these projects. Part 5: Use this to tell us about your activities, honors, interests, etc. while you have been in High School. This includes academics, athletics, church, community, or any other activities in which you participated that you feel are an important part of your life. Be sure to include your jobs and what responsibilities you had.

Part 6: Use this part to let us know of any unique information you feel the Committee would benefit from knowing about you, your family, your future college plans, or your future goals in life.
