PURPOSE OF THE POSITION This position is to: To contribute to the overall patient experience in Ambulatory Care by working within the health care team and under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse/Midwife or Registered Health Professional to deliver outpatient services that meet the patient needs, are efficient and customer focused. A PCA may work specifically at the Front Desk for a designated time, may work for a designated period on a specific task such as Planned Appointments or other administration functions or may work in a general role supporting clinics. A designated period may be a session, a day, a week or be a regular routine. Clinics can be held in a variety of settings using Counties Manukau District Health Board ( CM Health ) facilities such as Manukau SuperClinic, Botany SuperClinic, Middlemore Hospital and small community clinics. NATURE AND SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES Key Accountabilities Standards / Achievements Escort patient from waiting area to change/radiology room Check patient details Change patients into gowns for relevant examination assist patient if necessary. Inform relevant staff of patient readiness and location Escort patient into x-ray room as per staff instructions and assist where necessary eg patient lifts and transfers. Ensure that patient leaves the department on completion of the examination with relevant details about obtaining the results. See specific area instructions for further details Communication and interpersonal skills Liaises with staff of radiology and other disciplines as required to provide a well-organised, efficient and client-focused service to patients. Displays a professional approach when dealing with patients and other staff, communicating clearly and effectively. Answer telephones when necessary and assist caller. Room maintenance Ensure adequate supply of paper towels in rooms Check that the linen cupboards are fully stocked and tables/beds are neat and clean at all times Make sure MRSA boxes are fully stocked See specific area instructions for further details. Is conversant with applications required for specific discipline/role. For example, i.pm, Concerto, Outlook, etc. Maintains own professional development by attending relevant IT educational programmes. PROBLEM COMPLEXITY The PCA will regularly deal with a wide range of task. These tasks are clearly defined and involve working with established procedures. There will be a requirement to be able to prioritise issues and negotiate time frames, while still providing a quality customer service. There will be demands to meet deadlines, maintain accuracy and quality of information. Failure to do so could impact on the organisation in terms of patient care.
