SID is the national association of company directors and was formed in the aftermath of the 1997 Asian Financial Crisis to promote and uphold high standards of corporate governance. SID s mission is to encourage the highest standards of corporate governance and ethical conduct. SID has a pivotal role interfacing between directors, boards, regulators and other corporate players. SID essentially presents the view and represents the interests of boards and directors. Initiatives include: SID together with the Centre for Governance, Institutions and Organisations (CGIO) of the NUS Business School were appointed by the Monetary Authority of Singapore as the Domestic Ranking Body for the ASEAN Corporate Governance Scorecard, an initiative of the Asian Development Bank. SID works with CGIO and CPA Australia on the Singapore Governance and Transparency Index (SGTI). SID co-organises the annual Singapore Corporate Awards with The Business Times and the Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants. SID collaborates with the Singapore Exchange and other partners on a biennial Singapore Board of Directors Survey, and a biennial Singapore Directorship Report. SID Council and Committee members write a regular column in The Business Times called Boardroom Matters. SID, in collaboration with professional firms and with the support of the Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority, Monetary Authority of Singapore and Singapore Exchange, produces the series of Corporate Governance Guides for Boards and Board Committees in Singapore. SID has been a key partner in ACRA s efforts to promote corporate compliance and strengthening the integrity and quality of financial reporting in Singapore. We look forward to seeing SID continue to play an important role in the development of good corporate governance practices and as a hub for the professional training of directors. As an internationally trusted financial and business hub, Singapore needs to lead in corporate governance. SID plays an important role in inspiring and developing our corporate leaders and together, we will continue to advance and promote the highest standards and practices of ethical conduct and governance in the boardroom. Mr Ho Meng Kit CEO, Singapore Business Federation Sign up for membership today at www.sid.org.sg MEMBERSHIP ADMISSION CRITERIA ORDINARY MEMBER An ordinary member is one who: is or has been a director for two or more years; or is a senior executive for more than three years in a listed company; or is a partner of a professional firm (e.g. accounting and law) with more than three years involvement in corporate governance; or is an Associate Member who has completed the SID Listed Company Directors Programme, or SID-SMU Directorship Programme, or SID-INSEAD International Directors Programme. The SID Governing Council may admit an Ordinary Member if it deems the person s expertise, experience, standing or stature in the community to be appropriate. ASSOCIATE MEMBER An Associate Member is one who does not meet the criteria required of an Ordinary Member. GENERAL CRITERIA A person shall not be admitted as a Member if he or she is prohibited by law from acting as a director; or is an undischarged bankrupt; or is insolvent; or is not deemed fit and proper to be a Member by the SID Governing Council.
