Presentation of Commission To commission as an officer in the United States military is one of the highest responsibilities conferred upon American citizens. By order of the President and Congress of the United States, the recipient is authorized to exert command over those of lesser rank. Yet, with this considerable power, comes a grave responsibility both to the United States and to those fellow Soldiers whom the officer is charged to lead. The Oath of Office I, having been appointed an officer in the of the United States, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of The United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office upon which I am about to enter. So help me God. The First Salute It is customary when new officers receive their first salute to award a silver dollar to the individual rendering the salute. The individual receiving the silver dollar is then responsible for following the officer s career. If the officer reaches the rank of General or Admiral, the silver dollar is awarded back to the newly promoted flag officer. Special Thanks The graduating class is grateful to their families and friends, President Faust, Reverend Jonathan L. Walton, General John E. Hyten, Captain (Ret) Paul Mawn, Chairman of the Advocates for Harvard ROTC, Mr. Malcolm Hill, President of the Harvard ROTC Alumni Fund, Colonel James Metcalf (Ret.), Mr. Jason Luke, the Harvard University Band, Brass Quintet, Methuen High School Army JROTC, and Harvard University for their support of Harvard ROTC and today s ceremony.

Air Force Song Off we go into the wild blue yonder, Climbing high into the sun; Here they come zooming to meet our thunder, At 'em boys, Give 'er the gun! Down we dive, spouting our flame from under, Off with one hell of a roar! We live in fame or go down in flame. Nothing can stop the U.S. Air Force! Anchors Aweigh Stand, Navy, out to sea, Fight our battle cry; We'll never change our course, So vicious foe steer shy-y-y-y. Roll out the TNT, Anchors Aweigh. Sail on to victory And sink their bones to Davy Jones, hooray! Anchors Aweigh, my boys, Anchors Aweigh. Farewell to college joys, we sail at break of day-ay-ay-ay. Through our last night on shore, drink to the foam, Until we meet once more. Here's wishing you a happy voyage home

Marines Hymn From the Halls of Montezuma To the shores of Tripoli We fight our country's battles In the air, on land, and sea; First to fight for right and freedom And to keep our honor clean; We are proud to claim the title Of United States Marine. The Army Song First to fight for the right, And to build the nation s might, And the Army Goes Rolling Along. Proud of all we have done, Fighting till the battle s won, And the Army Goes Rolling Along. Then it s hi! hi! hey! The Army s on its way, Count off the cadence loud and strong; For where er we go, You will always know That the Army Goes Rolling Along.
