CALL FOR INDIVIDUAL DOCTORAL FELLOWSHIPS SCHOLARSHIPS The PhD program in Global Studies was selected for funding in the call launched by the National Foundation for Science and Technology (Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia, I.P.). The NOVA School of Social Sciences and Humanities accepts applications to five scholarships for the PhD program in Global Studies from August 1 st, until September 7 th 2016. The grants awarded under this contract will be financed by funds from the State Budget (from the Foundation for Science and Technology and the Ministry of Science, Technology and Higher Education) and the European Social Fund, in accordance with the following provisions: SCIENTIFIC AREA Global studies. APPLICANTS National citizens as well as EU and Third Country nationals can apply, in accordance with the National Foundation for Science and Technology s scholarship regulation (articles 5 and 14, n.º 1), as long as they hold a degree compatible with the requirements to pursue a PhD course in Global Studies. Candidates who were previously granted scholarships of the same type by the National Foundation for Science and Technology are not eligible as scholarship recipients. APPLICATION DATES AND FORM Applicants may apply from August 1 st, until September 7 th 2016. In both cases, the date of the receipt will be used to assess whether or not the application was submitted in due time.
The following documents are mandatory: - Curriculum vitae (including email address) and motivation letter; an explicit consent form to use the email as a means of communication; all documents must be dated and signed by the applicant; - work program; - copy of the id document; - documents testifying the academic degrees (these documents must include the final grades); - formal recognition or equivalence of academic degrees obtained in foreign institutions must be provided, according to Decree-Law 341/2007 and Decree-Law 283/83; - proof of preferential factors referred to herafter; - document of permanent and regular resident status in Portugal; - declaration concerning occupational engagement. WORK PROGRAM The work program must include: - abstract: 150 words, - state of the art: 500 words, - presentation design and planning methodology: 1.000 words: - references: up to 15. CENSE Research Center on Environment and Sustainability, at Campus de Caparica 2829-516 Caparica. Scientific supervisor(s) should be elicited whenever possible. EVALUATION AND SELECTION The selection process is two-fold: analysis of the documents and interview. The weights used are as follows: cv analysis (30%), work program (35%), interview (35%). The cv and the plan are evaluated in a 0-20 interval; the interview in a 5 points scale: high (equivalent to 20), good (16), fair (12), poor (8), and insufficient (4).
The cv and work program analyses assess the academic and occupational experience of the applicant, the preferential factors (his/her publications and participation in scientific events), as well other relevant aspects to be mentioned in the minutes. The evaluation of the work plan will be made according to the above-mentioned parameters. Preferential factors include academic publications and participation in academic events as long as they are duly proved. In the interview, both knowledges and competences, as well as the interaction with the members of the jury, will be assessed, notably concerning the motivation letter and the work program. Only the applicants ranked in the first ten places, and as long as their grade is equal to or above 15, will be invited to the interview. The invitation will be sent by email at least 5 days ahead of the date of the interviews. Both document analysis and interviews are eliminatory processes. The candidates who cannot achieve a minimum grade of 15 in document analysis are refused to proceed to the second phase the interview. Applicants who fail to be present at the interview or who cannot achieve a minimum grade of 15 in the aggregate evaluation will not be granted scholarship. The applicants will be ranked according to the aggregate evaluation obtained in a 0-20 interval. In case of ties, the interview, the work plan, and the cv will be, in this order, used to obtain a total order. The applicants can ask to read the jury minutes. The applicants selected to the interview will be contacted by email in order to participate in the interview. The participants who are not selected to the interviewing process, will be contacted by email and informed that, if they want to express their reaction, they can do it according to the guarantees included in the Administrative Code. All candidates will get to know the final results. SCHOLARSHIP DURATION AND MONTLHY STIPENDIUM According to article 9 of the Scholarship Regulation, the scholarships are granted for one year, and their contracts can be renewed up to four years. They are expected to commence in January 2017. The monthly stipendium is defined in the annex to the above-mentioned regulation. The scholarship, as well as the payment of the voluntary insurance, will be deposited each month in the bank account indicated in the scholarship contract. The scholarship contract requires full time dedication and therefore does not allow the applicants to have another job or gainful occupation besides the bursary as defined in the Research Scholarship Regulation.
