These are achieved by successive sessions of lectures and hands-on training under expert supervision. Course description Basic Upper GI Endoscopy Course (2 days) every month on 24th and 25th of the month Objectives 1. To understand the basic knowledge of upper GI endoscopy 2. To be able to explain to patients and their families regarding the upper endoscopy process 2
and acquire informed consent properly 3. To be able to handle endoscope properly, including reprocessing and maintenance of the endoscope 4. To have the basic skills for diagnostic gastroscopy 5. To know the indications, contraindication, complications and how to handle the complications 6. To have enough skill for further training in advance upper GI endoscopy Topics Covered 1. Orientation to endoscopic instrument and accessories 2. Endoscopic cleaning and disinfection 3. Basic upper GI endoscopic technique 4. Preparation and premedication methods of patients 5. Indications, contraindications and complications of upper GI endoscopy 6. Tissue Biopsy and handling 7. Interpretation of upper GI endoscopic findings 8. Technique for endoscopic hemostasis 9. Overcoming upper GI endoscopic difficulties The trainees will have an opportunity to practice the following procedure: Fees 1. Esophagoscopy 2. Gastroscopy 3. Duodenoscopy 4. Endoscopic variceal ligation 5. Other procedures such as coaptation therapy, hemo-clipping, endoscopic dilation, polypectomy, 6. Foreign body removal and PEG depend upon individual skill. 900 USD for Overseas candidate and 35000 Rupees for Indians.
