Visit an American Hero The USS KIDD Veterans Museum is the perfect location for those wishing to honor, remember and learn about the sacrifices made by the men and women of our military. Located in the heart of scenic downtown Baton Rouge, the KIDD is sought after by military groups looking to host a reunion, ceremony or memorial service. Veterans and their families come from all over the country, in groups of many different sizes that encompass all branches of service to pay tribute to the fallen and to reconnect with comrades while walking the decks of this National Historic Landmark. The USS KIDD (DD-661) is Fletcher-class destroyer currently moored on the Mississippi River that serves as the centerpiece exhibit a museum dedicated to honoring service members of all branches and all eras. The USS KIDD is restored to her World War II configuration and is one of the most accurately restored vessels in the entire Historic Naval Ships Association s fleet. A survivor of a Japanese kamikaze attack, the KIDD honors the memory of the men and women who paved the road for current service members. On shore, the museum s exhibits reflect many years of American military history with dozens of one-of-a-kind artifacts in our collection. The USS KIDD Veterans Museum does not receive any state or federal funding and thrives from self-generated funds that are acquired through admissions, overnights camping, military reunions, ceremonies, private events, gift shop sales, small grants and donations. Your support is what helps us keep history alive for another year and another generation to enjoy. We hope this information packet will help you learn more about how the KIDD is the ideal location for your event. Feel free to contact us with any questions by calling Reservations at (225) 342-1942 ext. 11. We look forward to having you aboard! 305 South River Road, Baton Rouge, LA Page 1 of 7

RENTAL SPACES Fantail of the USS KIDD The ship s fantail offers a meaningful location for a memorial service and is a favorite among Navy, Coast Guard and Merchant Marine groups. P-40E Warhawk Courtyard Fliers from the Air Force and Army Air Corps enjoy the south courtyard beneath the mighty P-40E Warhawk fighter plane replica. The courtyard is covered and will protect guests from light wind and rain. AVAILABLE MEMORIAL SERVICES Louisiana Memorial Plaza The granite walls of the Louisiana Memorial Plaza is a favorite among Army groups and displays the names of over 7,000 Louisiana service members lost in action from the American Revolution to current overseas contingency operations. The eternal flame burns in their honor 24/7. A restored A-7E Corsair II Jet Attack Aircraft looms above the Memorial Plaza and is dedicated to Louisiana s Vietnam Veterans. Lejeune Plaza Marines often prefer to gather near the statue of Lieutenant General John Archer Lejeune, 13th Commandant of the Marine Corps, which stands vigilant over the Lejeune Plaza. 305 South River Road, Baton Rouge, LA Page 2 of 7

AVAILABLE PRODUCTS & SERVICES Walkway of Flags: On the day of your visit, we can display our Walkway of Flags. Over 70 U.S. flags will line the walkway and gangway leading you from the museum to the KIDD. Color Guard: If you would like to have a color guard render honors at your event, we can provide a list of ROTC and JROTC units in the area. Early requests are required. Bagpipes: They have been part and parcel of military services for centuries, and ceremonies held here at the USS KIDD are no exception. We can make arrangements to have this beautiful instrument as a part of your service, performing the age-old classic Amazing Grace. Bugler: What military memorial service would be complete without the haunting sound of a bugler playing Taps? We can make arrangements to have a bugler perform at your event. Chaplain: If your group does not have a chaplain to conduct your memorial service, we can provide a list of local clergy in the area. Wreath: A wreath from local florists is available in two different sizes, medium and large. It s made up of various flowers in patriotic red, white, and blue colors with a ribbon showing your ship or unit s name. Following the ceremony, you can take this back to your hotel for the duration of the reunion or lay it at the base of the eternal flame in the Memorial Plaza. Throwing the wreath overboard: From July through February, the KIDD sits high and dry in her cradle due to the river s seasonal drop in water levels. Consequently, if the wreath were tossed over the side in the traditional manner, it would land in the mud. Any other time of year is fine. Audio System: A podium and a speaker system are available for use, along with approximately 100 folding chairs and 18 tables each measuring 7-feet. Gangway Pass -- One of the best deals we have to offer. With a Gangway Pass, visitors can tour the KIDD and museum as many times as they want during reunion dates. Our other option is a Day Pass. USS KIDD Video: We have a 30-minute film on the history of the USS KIDD and a short orientation on the USS KIDD Veterans Museum. Dog tags: You remember everyone had them. Name, rank, and serial number. Purchase a set of personalized dog tags with your ship or reunion name, or any other content, up to five lines. Request a Dog Tag Order Form if you re interested. Our Gift Shop has other customized souvenirs to make your reunion a memorable one. Of course, we have many USS KIDD items for sale in the Gift Shop. 305 South River Road, Baton Rouge, LA Page 4 of 7
