The role will include general kitchen duties, assisting in basic food preparation and production, serving meals to our children, cleaning duties and maintaining a high standard of kitchen hygiene within the catering department. JOB PROFILE Catering Assistant Job purpose: General kitchen duties to assist in the production and serving of meals in school and maintaining a high standard of kitchen hygiene. Responsible to: Liaise with: Chef Manager Chef Cook Head teacher Teachers and pupils School Business Manager, Office and Support Staff Suppliers Catering Duties This will involve: Assist in the serving of food to children and school staff whilst maintaining excellent levels of customer service. Assist in basic food preparation such as salads and sandwiches. Occasional light cooking duties. Wash dinner trays, plates and cutlery either by hand or machine. The cleaning of equipment, surfaces and floors. Complete the designated cleaning tasks in accordance with the daily and weekly cleaning schedules. Use simple kitchen machinery, after appropriate training. Attend training sessions if required, possibly outside usual working day. Ensure high standards of hygiene and cleanliness in the food preparation and service areas at all times, paying attention to the Food Safety and Health and Safety regulations. Help raise the profile of nutritious school food with pupils and staff.
PERSON SPECIFICATION Catering Assistant Essential Knowledge: Basic food preparation such as sandwiches, salads etc. Essential Skills and Abilities: Ability to read and complete simple instructions, such as cleaning rota, work rota, temperature and control sheets Able to use and clean simple kitchen machinery and light equipment. Demonstrate a willingness and enthusiasm for training and progression. Able to encourage children to eat a balanced meal. Able to communicate with all kitchen, school staff and pupils. Able to work as part of a team with little day to day supervision. Display and maintain a high standard of personal hygiene. Work effectively in a busy environment. Essential experience: None
