China: The Past, Present & Future Summer Program Shanghai University: SILC Dates TBC (within UTS winter break)
Study in China and experience the diverse ancient and modern cultures of cosmopolitan Shanghai! Exciting opportunity for 20 UTS students on this 2 week program. This summer program will give you: Insights into the underlying values of Chinese culture and history. An understanding of the issues and challenges of emerging markets and unique Chinese business model. Learning of the Chinese language. Insights through industry field trips. Connections with emerging leaders. A global perspective on business and management, with a focus on Asia s role in the global business sphere.
Who can apply? This fantastic opportunity is open to 20 UTS BUiLD students with: A keen interest in Chinese culture, customs and language. A current GPA of 1.5 or over; An easy going, flexible, independent character with a willingness to take initiative to learn; A willingness to work hard and adapt to different surrounds and difficult work environments; Strong team working skills.

Summer Program Highlights This program is packed full of exciting lectures and workshops, networking opportunities and cultural experiences. Students will be undertaking activities such as: Lectures run by Shanghai University focusing on Chinese economic and social development, Chinese History and Culture and Chinese Language. Networking opportunities with Shanghai University students and alumni. Participation in group meetings and visits with major local companies including Volkswagen and Baosteel. Visits to interesting cultural icons as well as rural areas outside of downtown Shanghai. One week at the Jiading campus, with the unique combination of modern new city and traditional old town. One week at the Yanchang campus in the city centre.

Funding Successful BUiLD students will each receive a travel grant of $2,000 towards the cost of SILC Summer Program. The program fee is USD$1,000. Program fees include: Academic tuition, site visits and course materials: The fee is inclusive of all activities listed in the program online. Accommodation: In Shanghai University student accommodation. Insurance: Travel and medical insurance through UTS Travel Insurance Policy For more information: http://www.shusilc.shu.edu.cn/ Not included: Airfares: Return flights from Sydney to Shanghai. Travel visa: Travel visa and visa processing fees. Meals: No meals are provided however food is relatively inexpensive in China. Other expenses: General personal expenses and spending money.
If you are successful You are required to: Attend a pre-departure session before the internship and a post-trip debrief upon your return. Represent UTS with distinction at all times during the program. Write a blog or maintain a written reflection during the program. Submit a summary of your reflection to BUiLD after you return. Complete feedback survey after you return. Attend all BUiLD pre-departure and post-program information and briefing sessions* * NB: Pre-Departure Information Sessions will run on 4 and 11 June 2014 and a Welcome Back post-program debrief is scheduled for 13 August 2014.
