WISCPHR w i s c p h r. w i s c. e d u WISCPHR Newsletter WI Society for Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Health and Rehabilitation January 31, 2016 - Volume 27, Number 1 In this issue. Presidents Corner Hi Everyone, 1. Presidents Corner 3. Support Group 4. AACVPR CCRP 5. Call for Clinical Abstracts 2016 Board of Directors upcoming meetings: May 17 September27 November 15 Everyone is welcome to attend these meetings! Where is our snow!! Some are happy it hasn t come and others want to get out on those snowmobiles! Oh the unpredictability of Wisconsin weather!! Speaking of unpredictability what is going to happen in the elections? Such a different year! I do think it could be so easily argued that there has been no more important time for us to exercise our right to vote. More pointedly stated our responsibility to extend our professional practice in representation of our patients. Show your support of the issues at hand. When you receive a call to action, please respond by fulfilling the request. If you have any questions on what to do or how to do it, please never be afraid to e-mail myself or other members of the WISCPHR board. The 2 biggest legislative issues for 2016 are: 1. Granting to physician assistants, nurse practitioners and clinical nurse specialists for supervision in cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation programs on a day-to-day basis by the amendment of an error in the language included in Public Law 110-275 (enacted in 2008). As a result, cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation require a level of physician supervision that is not commensurate with patient risk; this creates access issues in rural (critical care facilities) and other areas with physician shortages, as well as unnecessary costs for these low-revenue programs. 2. The licensing of Exercise Physiologists. Your 2016 delegates from Wisconsin to Day on the Hill, in representation of these current issues, are: Diana Rohloff WISCPHR President from Milwaukee, Bonnie Anderson WISCPHR BOD member and liaison to AACVPR from Viroqua and Lance Maerz President Elect from Barneveld. ASLMC Cardiac Rehab has recently started a support group for their patients. Once every month, patients of Phase II and Phase III Cardiac Rehab are invited to join and listen to a discussion. Topics may range from podiatry, medications, cardiac surgery, and many more! There are also topics such as jeopardy, yoga, and Tai Chi that encourage patients to interact and encourage movement! The support group is led by a variety of different people including physicians, surgeons, and group exercise instructors. We encourage patients to share ideas for upcoming support group and education topics. The support group has been a success as our attendance has ranged from 15-20 patients each month. We enjoy being a part of the patients continuing wellness! Newsletter 3
