GENERAL MANAGER MESSAGE Community Engagement - not just buzzwords for the year, but a real effort by Wyoming PBS to reach out into our communities - to learn, to engage, and to build productive relationships with Wyoming citizens. Nearly 350 people attended our public screenings of 100 Years on the LIncoln Highway in Cheyenne and Rawlins, giving us an important message: that producing local historical programs, and organizing events around them, are important to you! In that vein, we have another screening planned for Lander this month to promote the upcoming NATURE episode Touching the Wild, starring Lander author and naturalist Joe Hutto. Wyoming PBS and the Lander Journal are hosting a public screening and discussion of the program with Joe, as well as a book signing, at the Lander Library on April 9, at 7 pm. everyone is invited! Also in line with our efforts to do more community outreach, our Ready to Learn Coordinator Penny Hotovec is taking Cat in the Hat on tour this month! She will be visiting over 15 locations across Wyoming in an effort to promote early literacy - and we fully expect to have in excess of 3,000 parents and children attend these events! See page 15 for a complete itinerary of towns that she will be visiting. I also want to mention the summer learning camps that Penny is planning - SuperWhy and Sid the Science Kid camps are planned for Evanston, Rock Springs, Newcastle and Powell. A great way to extend and retain learning for kids and leverage the value of our children s programs! It s also important to recognize our sponsor from the past 4 years for all our early childhood initiatives a very BIG thank-you to BP America, and their new governmental affairs director, Cindy Delancey (see photo below). Finally, a very big salute to all our new and renewing members, phone volunteers, on-air talent, and CWC television production students what a fantastic March Membership Festival we had! Your pledges and support were vital proof that Wyoming PBS is important to Wyoming citizens. Money raised from our membership festival will go to our production endowment matching fund set up by the Wyoming legislature. We are about $225,000 away from matching our $1.5 million endowment!
