November 2015 The Kentucky Pioneer United we stand, divided we fall. Compatriots: Kentucky Society Sons of the American Revolution Message from the KYSSAR President From my family to yours, we hope you had a "Blessed and Safe Thanksgiving Holiday". If traveling, use caution and enjoy all that are around you. Be ever vigilant concerning your surroundings. Take nothing for granted! I am impressed by all the positive SAR, State and Chapter activities that are posted on social media. I have yet to view any negative messages about our society, nor should we ever fall into that medium. Our Kentucky membership continues to grow; we are now at 1091 members strong, with 15 additional applications to complete. Hopefully we can document this growth before the end of the year! If you're wondering how we continue to grow, look no further than the documentation provided by the NSSAR Membership Committee, Recruitment and Retention guidelines. This is a great tool to use within your state to grow your society. We do not use everything suggested but we have embraced those items that fit our criteria. We also have dedicated volunteers that donate a tremendous amount of their time. Christmas will quickly be on our doorstep too! Keep God ever present in you heart and pray for our "Nation". We will be able to remain strong by keeping God and family as the priority in our lives. I look forward to seeing all in 2016. Have a Happy and Safe New year! Colonel Stephen Trigg Chapter The Sons of Liberty Chapter of the Alabama Society hosted a grave marking ceremony near the community of Sulligent. The ceremony honored all five known Revolutionary War Patriots buried in Lamar County. The event was certified as a Southern District (Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana) Color Guard Event. Col. Stephen Trigg Chapter President Geoff Baggett was invited to speak at the ceremony because one of the five Patriots was his direct-line ancestor. His 5th great-grandfather, Sgt. Richard Priddy, served in the 1st Virginia Regiment of the Continental Line from August 1776 through August 1779. Chapter President Geoff Baggett kneels by his 5th Great Grandfather s stone. Ft. Massac Encampment The weekend of October 17-18 marked the enormous annual historical event near Metropolis, Illinois, known as the Ft. Massac Encampment. Located on the site of a pre- Revolutionary War fort on the banks of the Ohio River, the event celebrates the history of the site from the early French and Indian period through the War of 1812. The Col. Stephen Trigg Chapter set up a display shelter in the educational outreach area and distributed information about the SAR. They also sold raffle tickets for the custom tomahawk fundraiser. Steve Mallory and Geoff Baggett manned the ticket table. Eddie Price took the opportunity to sell many copies of his excellent book, Widder s Landing. Geoff Baggett, Steve Mallory and Eddie Price.

Colonel Stephen Trigg Chapter Field Day Caldwell County Elementary School Compatriots of the Col. Stephen Trigg Chapter, for the second year in a row, took part in the fall Field Day for the fifth graders of Caldwell County Elementary School in Princeton, Kentucky. The event consists of six interactive educational stations manned by volunteers from the community. All six of the fifth grade homeroom classes rotate through each station for twenty-five minutes. The Col. Stephen Trigg Chapter hosted one station with their Revolutionary War in a Trunk program. Compatriots Geoff Baggett, Steve Mallory, and Jack Dawson led the program, which included period items, Revolutionary War flags, and a display of weaponry and accoutrements. At the end of each presentation Baggett and Dawson dressed one boy and one girl from each class in hunting frocks and tricorn hats, and had some extra fun placing a pony-tail wig on the boy. At the end of each presentation, Mallory fired a shot with his long rifle. The boom of his gun was the signal to all six classes that it was time for students to rotate to the next station. # In just three hours of time the men were able to share a lesson in Revolutionary War history with approximately 150 students.
