The Regional Working Group Meeting will be held under the topic «Synergies and Cooperation s». The focus is on the development of energy activities in general in the region of East Styria and therefore the needs and the potentials have to be analysed, measures have to be developed together and implementations will be planned together. Within the Energieregion Oststeiermark several institutions and companies are working and also the nine so called climate- and energy model regions (KEM) are situated here. These consist of municipalities of different sizes, of companies, of associations, All aim to reach their targets which have been formulated for the region. Lower Austria (Acting together for greater urban-rural cohesion) «Crossborder Cooperation between cities" Retz 25 October 2013 Workshop Organisers: Weinviertel Management Herbert Nowohradsky, Management Weinviertel Speakers: Hermann Hansy, Regional manager Weinviertel Martin Kavalek, Lower Austria Land Markus Weindl, Management Weinviertel After the fall of the Iron Curtain cross- border cooperation activities at the Austrian Czech border have undergone different stages. After Austria s EU accession cooperation was supported by two different instruments: INTERREG IIA for the Austrian side and PHARE CBC for the Czech side. The EU membership of the Czech Republic induced also an intensive boost for cross-border cooperation activities across the common border of Austria and the Czech Republic. Nowadays an intense and integrated network of various actors has developed, supported by the cross-border program ETC AT-CZ 2007-2013. The upcoming programming period of 2014-2020 requires due to the new precondition of Thematic Concentration set up by the European Commission an even more elaborative process by the responsible authorities to come to a comprehensive and target-oriented outline of the next cross-border program. In order to facilitate and support this decision progress the project Partnership Austria-Czech Republic in the Central European Region PRO 2013+ was initiated by the Regions Vysocina, South Moravia, Lower Austria and Vienna. Representatives from the region s authorities, local government. www.euregio-weinviertel.eu 5

The topic will be the support of a cross-municipal as well as crossborder/transnational coordination of spatial planning. This gains more and more importance especially in terms of regional competition. It is also a relevant topic when fostering an efficient and optimal use of location potentials. The varied consequences of location and settlement developments, like traffic emergence, location potentials or energy consumption need to be analysed and evaluated in order to estimate, coordinate and observe future land consumption. Within this workshop a settlement and a household calculator are introduced and exemplary calculations are presented. These tools aim at showing consequences of settlement development processes in spatial planning on the one hand, and residential location decisions of private households concerning mobility and residential costs on the other hand. The workshop aims to inform local politicians, regional and spatial planners, and mobility actors and shows practically how cost estimations work and how they can be implemented. The workshop is addressed to politicians, spatial planners and mobility actors; also experts of the University of Salzburg and other research institutes will be invited. www.moreco-project.eu 6
