THE HUMAN LIBRARY PROJECT : A COMMUNITY OUTREACH PROGRAMME In an effort to improve learning performance and instil love for reading among school students, the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) of Universiti Brunei Darussalam Community Outreach Programme (FASS-COP) conducted the Human Library Project in 2013 ran by a group of third year undergraduates who were undergoing their Discovery Year, which included organising a Community Outreach Programme. As one of the core components in UBD s Discovery Year, COP gives students the opportunity to reach out and help the society be it in terms of education, social or economy. It is usually conducted over a period of 14 to 16 weeks and students are given the privilege to do it locally or abroad. For local activities, students can initiate their own projects or be integrated into faculty-tailored projects such as the one of HLP. In this project, students organize 2 hours weekly tutorials, thematic activities as well as a number of educational field trips in order to give around 40 students in primary and secondary level the opportunities to apply what they have learned at school or during the tutorials.
