The VFW Post was represented by Post Commander Michael Holmes and VFW member Chalothorn "CD" Suwanswetr. Commander Holmes told the group that the American veterans wanted to present the small donations to acknowledge the brotherhood that exists amongst veterans around the world. He specifically recognized the Thai veterans for their contributions in making Thailand a country where American expats are so grateful to be able to live. The Thai senior veteran told the VFW and the Thai Service Organization that they were overjoyed to receive the donations, not only because of the winter weather, but because that it was further proof that their service to their country was not forgotten. VFW POST 10217 CELEBRATES CHILDREN'S DAY KORAT, THAILAND Children's Day in Thailand feel on Saturday Jan 9th this year and to celebrate this day Karl W. Richter Memorial Post 10217 took 25 honor students from a local school to the open house at Wing One which is the Royal Thai Air Force Base in Korat. We started the day at 06:30 by serving the children breakfast at the school followed by a caravan of Post members vehicles to the base. Once at the base we gave each student 50 baht to use anyway they wanted. After a little sight seeing on the flight line we treated the students to ice cream served by our SVC, Jack Sungsakris, and a couple Thai Air Force personnel. Next inside one of the hangers the students did some painting with water colors. Another Post member, Jim Williams, coordinated with the local Lions Club to distribute gifts to all the students which was a great hit. Next we watch fly bys by RTAF F-16's, a HALO jump and a repelling demonstration from a Huey, then ate some lunch bought by the Post and headed home. It was a fun day for all the members and students which will not be soon forgotten. Quartermaster Ed Medlin and Commander Byron Petrides (back row) plus all the happy teachers and children at Children's Day.
