I grew up i a era whe people had o home coectios because everythig was ripped from uder you. Piece by piece, the Red Cross offered hope to Aa. Aa was bor after World War II. The horrors ad tragedies brought upo by the Germa Nazis were ever-preset i her life. After the war (1945), her parets met i a Displaced Persos Camp i Italy. I 1947, they left Italy ad resettled i Argetia. Talkig about what happeed was taboo. Her parets ever shared iformatio about their families history, homelad, aythig. It was just too difficult. I 1966, the family was grated immigratio rights by the Uited States. Aa, her brother ad mother had their sights set o Chicago where they had frieds. She wet o to college, got married ad moved to Arizoa. With that iformatio, she reached out to the Red Cross i Eglad to see what they could help ucover. They suggested she submit a applicatio to the Holocaust ad War Victims Tracig Ceter through the local Red Cross Chapter i Phoeix. That s whe Aa met Doa Wikler, a passioate caseworker who feels compelled to helpig people fid their acestors. Withi days, the Holocaust ad War Victims Tracig Ceter i Marylad accepted Aa s case. It was ow i the hads of people who have resources ad coectios aroud the globe, all diggig for clues. While Aa waited for word, she became a Red Cross caseworker dedicated to helpig people just like her. She kew all too well the importace of puttig those life puzzle pieces together. O October 13, a message for Aa arrived at the Grad Cayo Chapter. I almost jumped through the roof, remembers Doa. I get very emotioal because I kow the impact a message has o someoe who s bee livig i the dark for so, so log. Doa delivered the message to Aa at her home. It cofirmed her father was a Polish citize, a critical piece for Aa who wats to also become a Polish citize. It gave me a sesatio because oe little part of me is ow i my hads, she said with a smile. A few weeks passed ad aother message arrived for Aa. O a small piece of paper were the ames of her great ucle, ucle, first cousi, aut, two gradmothers ad a gradfather. She leared where some family members died. She also foud out her cousi is alive ad i Polad! With tears fillig her eyes Aa says, This was somethig you wated for so log. The oe day it s here. Now this is aother piece of me! You hope for aother piece ad aother piece to complete the family puzzle. Aa hopes to have the last piece of puzzle whe she travels to Polad ad visits livig family members ad the places where her parets grew up.
