Meeting the Basic Needs of the Spiritually Challenged Department of Veteran Affairs Medical Foster Home Where Heroes Meet Angels The Department of Veteran Affairs, Medical Foster Home program is a unique program that serves as an alternative to nursing home placement for America s elderly veteran population. Medical foster homes are private homes in which a trained caregiver provides services to Veterans who are unable to take care of themselves. These caregivers have opened up their homes and have made it their life s mission to take care of American heroes who have served and protected this country. Each Medical Foster Home has a trained caregiver on duty 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and assists each Veteran to carry out activities of daily living like bathing, dressing and toileting. VA ensures that the caregiver is well trained to provide VA planned care. There are 15 caregivers who have opened up their private homes to elderly veterans throughout Hillsborough County. There are approx. 30 veterans residing in these homes. These caregivers are definitely Angels to America s Heroes.
