Series Partner Project Leadership: the game changer in large scale complex projects Series Sponsor Sponsorship Prospectus

Join Us Greetings, for the 2018 International Roundtable Series The International Centre for Complex Project Management (ICCPM), invites you to be a sponsor of the 2018 International Roundtable Series Leadership for Success in Complex Projects. Leadership is of importance and interest to our members and their respective areas of government and industry around the world. In a complex project environment, this importance and interest is significantly amplified. This series will bring the collective wisdom of the participants to bear on the topic, with the principal outcome being a clear definition of necessary action to be taken to address identified issues. We have partnered with the John Grill Centre for Project Leadership at The University of Sydney to investigate this critical topic. The John Grill Centre has significant expertise and experience in the area of project leadership through their applied research and leadership development programs targeting Boards, executives and project directors/managers. They have worked with organisations across multiple sectors of the economy to uplift their ability to lead, sponsor and govern projects and have demonstrated strong contributions to project success through these initiatives Roundtable events will be conducted in a number of locations globally and there are sponsorship opportunities for both the series and individual events. We anticipate conducting these events in Washington, Ottawa, London, Europe, South Africa, Singapore and various locations in Australia and New Zealand. Delegates will include ICCPM Fellows, members and executive level practitioners who work in complex project, programme and organisational environments. As highly regarded members of this professional field, we are offering you an opportunity to be part of the roundtable series and to showcase your organisation to project and programme managers working in complex environments. This sponsorship prospectus outlines a range of packages available and we would be pleased to discuss these or to customise a package to suit your organisation. We look forward to working with you. Collin Smith Acting Chief Executive Officer ICCPM Professor Suresh Cuganesan Chief Executive Officer The John Grill Centre for Project Leadership Page 2

Topic Project Leadership: the game changer in large scale complex projects Introduction Who is the Leader? In Kaye Remington s publication Leading Complex Projects she writes: When this book was still a germ of an idea, Jonathan Norman, from Gower Publishing, posed an important question about leadership of complex projects. He asked: Who is the leader? The answer to that question, strongly supported by the results from our research, is that in a complex project or programme there is rarely one leader. A complex project or programme is a multi-level endeavour involving numerous different groups and individuals, a kind of macro-team activity. Although certain individuals might be required to take overt leadership roles at critical times, the command-control notion of a single leader stems from a simpler world view. The many levels of leadership in a complex programme or project must somehow coalesce individuals, teams, organisations and environment. Highly networked groups interact, each group having a small but significant impact on the overall carriage of the project. 1 In our 2016 Roundtable Series we looked specifically at Contracting for Success in Complex Projects. For our 2018 Series we look to build on the successful outcomes from that series, specifically focusing on the most vexing issue, what does Leadership for Success in Complex Projects mean? It is well understood that in most cases organisational success depends to some extent on the successful delivery of program and project outcomes. Too often, the potential for achieving the highest degree of organisational success relies heavily on the execution of effective leadership. The purpose of the roundtable discussion is to bring the collective wisdom of the participants together, to focus on the topic of leadership of complex projects, with the principal outcome being a clear definition of further action required. 1 Remington, K (2011) Leading Complex Projects, Gower Publishing, Surry, England Page 3

Event Locations Roundtable events will be held in various locations around the world between April and September 2018. Depending on sponsor locations we envisage roundtable events to be conducted in the USA (Washington DC), Canada (Ottawa), UK (London), Europe (The Netherlands), South Africa (Johannesburg), Singapore, New Zealand (Wellington) and various locations in Australia. Each Roundtable will be conducted over a full day, facilitated by ICCPM facilitators and fully catered. The provisional programme of events is as follows: Day Date Location Tuesday 8 th June 2018 Sydney, Australia (John Grill Centre for Project Leadership) Friday 22nd June 2018 Ottawa, Canada (Telfer Centre for Executive Leadership) Tuesday 26th June 2018 London, UK (venue to be confirmed) Thursday 28th June 2018 The Netherlands, Europe (date and venue to be confirmed) Wednesday 1st August Brisbane, Australia (QUT Graduate School of Business) Monday 3rd September Canberra, Australia (QUT Executive Education Centre) Washington DC, USA (date and venue to be confirmed) Melbourne, Australia (date and venue to be confirmed) Singapore (date and venue to be confirmed) New Zealand (date and location to be confirmed) Johannesburg, South Africa (date and venue to be confirmed) Note: Dates are negotiable with event sponsors Page 4

Delegates Delegates are expected from a range of industries, including public and private organisations. To ensure the appropriate level delegates involved in the series, attendance to the Roundtables is reserved for a selection of invitation only participants and ICCPM and John Grill Centre members and partners, therefore numbers for public guest attendance is limited. Approximately 200-400 attendees are expected across the various locations. Delegates will likely be managers from all levels and sectors of their profession, plus decision makers and senior executives from public and private sector organisations. Delegates from the 2009, 2012 and 2016 International Roundtable Series included CEOs from multinational organisations, senior government officials, professors and senior academics in the complex project space, and leaders of mega-projects. Highlights from delegates of our previous events: Meeting and having conversations with a broad range of highly regarded, intelligent and engaged experts; Discussing common experiences with international counterparts; Hearing various perspectives/ experiences/ lessons learned on complex projects.
