Nutty News President s Letter Rhonda Dunn ( 86), Alumnae Chapter President It was the spring of 1985, and I was a nineteen year old freshman going through informal rush. I remember the first time I went through the front door of the chapter house. Kristina Sinn Deason, my best friend since first grade, invited me to the party. I was glad to see her sister Kimberlee Sinn Mitchell there so I knew someone else. Little did I know at that time I was taking a step that would have such impact on my life. There were eight girls in my pledge class and I smile as I think of them today. We sure had a lot of fun! Some of our activities still continue today like Homecoming, Greek Week, Derby Days, Western Week, runouts, and Christmas Formal. Others have changed over time like bed races, crowning a Snow Queen, Barn Party after IRD and skits during rush (with matching dresses!). Sometimes change is a good thing. Spring/Summer 2012 vol. 4, issue 1 Spring 85 Pledge Class However, the one thing that has never changed is the sisterhood that we gained in college and still share today. It doesn t matter how much time passes, when we see each other after 27 years, we still laugh over those shared memories and the fun we had. It s funny... we never remember bad things just the good times. Each story usually ends with us all laughing about it or commenting on how bad our memories are getting. I have been truly blessed that I ve had three opportunities to experience sisterhood in Alpha Gamma Delta. First was as a collegiate member. The second opportunity was when I served as an advisor to the chapter. I met young women whom I am proud to call my friends today. It is such a rewarding experience to see the women they have become and to watch their lives unfold. The true reward of being an advisor is having one of them tell you that you had an impact on her life. My other opportunity to experience the sisterhood of Alpha Gamma Delta is through our own Epsilon Kappa Alumnae Chapter. It is such a diverse group of women including sisters from each decade of our chapter s history. I can now count among my friends Alpha Gam sisters who are grandmothers, new graduates, young mothers, business owners, teachers, senior citizens, and my college friends. Epsilon Kappa Alumnae Chapter was re-established in 2009, and we are celebrating our third year in operation. I encourage each of you to join our alumnae chapter. It s a great way to keep in touch with other alumnae and support the collegiate chapter. Above all, we have a lot of fun. The annual dues are $25. Please join Epsilon Kappa Alumnae Chapter today and show your support to the collegiate chapter. I hope as you read this edition of The Nutty News, you remember the sisters you found through Alpha Gamma Delta, and I also hope your memories bring a smile to your face! Enjoy! Hope to see you at IRD! 1

Collegiate Chapter Report The fall semester was a busy and exciting one for the collegiate ladies of Epsilon Kappa. We ve all been working hard and having a lot of fun while we re at it, and we have a lot to look forward to in 2012. August- We had an awesome start to the year with a successful formal recruitment. The collegiate chapter had the pleasure of hosting leadership consultant Melissa Pope during the week. She helped each officer individually, and we came up with new ideas for the year, emphasizing teamwork and sisterhood. September- As the school year officially started, September brought a lot of fun events for the girls. Leah McCaffrey (Tonganoxie, KS), social coordinator, worked with the men of Sigma Tau Gamma to hold a barbecue at their house for the ladies. In the middle of the month, we attended a sisterhood retreat in Arkansas City, where we all had the opportunity to participate in a high ropes course, teambuilding activities, and a movie night. Mom/Dot week brought a lot of excitement for all of the members and ended with Family Day, where we enjoyed a delicious brunch and the Parent s Club auction. October- With cold weather coming around, AGD participated in an All-Greek Leaf Rake as a community service project. That same day, we also worked with the men of Pi Kappa Alpha at their Annual Kickball Tournament to raise money for breast cancer. We also participated in the SWIPE Event, which Kay Hixon (Olathe, KS), Vice President of Recruitment, brought to Pittsburg State and started her own on-campus organization. We helped package meals to end world hunger. After all of that community service, Homecoming Week was upon us. Holly Hrabik (Olathe, KS), Molly Miller (Olathe, KS), and Esther Chang (Kuala Lompor, Malaysia), were all nominated to become Homecoming Queen, and represented our fraternity very well. The week ended perfectly as we placed first in the Yell like Hell competition, second in float and second overall during Homecoming Week! October also brought the Annual Golf Tournament that helped us raise $1600 for the Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation. After fall break, we had the amazing opportunity to help with Extreme Home Makeover: Home Edition in Joplin, Missouri. November- As the semester came to a close, we initiated 22 beautiful ladies. Feast of Roses was held at the Crestwood Country Club following initiation. Later in the month, we all had a blast at our formal, themed Southern Belle Ball. The month ended with senior spirit week. December- The end of the semester brought some great news to the collegiate ladies we received 1st in grades with an overall GPA of 3.36! All of the hard work definitely paid off! The fall semester of 2011 was definitely an exciting one. I am so proud of every member, and I am enjoying my first semester as chapter president. I know all of the officers have a lot planned and a ton of new goals for the spring semester. If you have any questions or comments for the collegiate chapter, feel free to email epsilonkappaec@gmail.com, or email me personally at meghanmitchell@gus.pittstate.edu. House Association Update The House Association Board had a very busy summer doing another large remodel project. The project entailed the following: Completely gutted the upstairs bathrooms from floor to ceiling Installed all new sheetrock Added new custom cabinets that were hand built by Pitt State Saw Club. (We thought reaching out to another organization on campus to help with this remodel would benefit the chapter and also cut back on the cost.) They are beautiful...absolutely top of the line work! Installed new tile flooring Installed new canned lighting above each shower to provide plenty of light Installed new counter tops, sinks, faucets, toilets, and showers Painted the bathroom area neutral beige helping it feel warm and cozy http://websites.omegafi.com/omegaws/alph agammadeltapittsburgstate/?doing_wp_cron. The purpose of this DVD is to recap the history of our house and present plans for the future. The collegiate chapter and House Assoication are working hard to move forward together. HA is also looking for alumnae to become a part of this awesome board! With elections coming up in April, please let me know if you are interested or know of someone who is interested in getting involved. We currently have three to four positions opening up for this upcoming HA board. We look forward to seeing you all at the HA Annual Meeting following IRD on April 21st, 2012. I welcome any questions or concerns about the chapter house so please reach out to me through phone or email. 913-634-1414 or gamsister@hotmail.com Heather Shondell Kucera ( 01) HA President Made some repairs to siding on the outside of the house and awnings Painted the exterior of the house a golden bronze color along with fresh white trim and new black shutters on all the windows As you can see, we had another summer full of wonderful remodels to the chapter house. The feedback from the collegians has been nothing but excellent. The girls were so excited to show off their new house during recruitment this past summer. The House Association has officially acquired more land behind our current house, which will allow for future expansion of the parking lot. With this being said, the next phase is breaking down the parking lot expansion into three phases. The first phase is to get the land cleared. The second is bringing in backfill for the space. And the third phase is to actually build the 95-space parking lot behind the house. Recap of 2011 IRD Epsilon Kappa s 2011 IRD was held April 16, 2011, on the PSU campus at the Alumni Center. May graduates participated in the Senior Rededication Service. International Reunion Day 2012 Sisters: Gifts from the Heart You are cordially invited to attend Epsilon Kappa s International Reunion Day (IRD). The IRD theme for 2012, Sisters: Gifts from the Heart, emphasizes the value of sorority sisters. A sorority sister is a gift to the heart, a friend to the spirit, a golden thread to the meaning of life. On IRD sisters young and old gather to renew friendships and celebrate the gift of sisterhood. Come and reconnect with your sisters at IRD!! Sisters that were initiated in 1962 and 1987 will be recognized for being 50 and 25 Year members. The luncheon is for Alpha Gamma Delta members only and appropriate dress is smart casual/badge attire. When: April 21, 2012 Place: Crestwood Country Club 304 W. Crestview Avenue Pittsburg, KS Alumnae Chapter Social Activities Homecoming Tailgate Alumnae and their families gathered on October 15, 2011, for the 3rd Annual Homecoming Tailgate. Epsilon Kappa s from five decades enjoyed Mall Deli sandwiches (with lots of Creamy Italian dressing) and reminisced about their collegiate days. Later, the alumnae gathered at the home of Maggie Costantini Ryan ( 68) for a social including appetizers and beverages. It was a great evening filled with good food, good drink, and a great deal of laughter. The common link of Alpha Gamma Delta that exists between the different decades of women is so apparent in their enthusiasm as they all discuss their Alpha Gam experiences. Truly, this was an evening of renewed friendships and the creation of new friendships.
