Gals The gals f this MPH prgram in Public Health Nutritin are t that ensure graduates: Understand the pathphysilgy f cmmn acute and chrnic disease prcesses and the rle that nutritin may play in the develpment f these diseases. Understand the factrs impacting the accessibility, availability, adequacy and safety f the fd and water systems serving a cmmunity, and the relatinship between cmmunity fd and water systems and health utcmes. Develp skills in nutritin assessment f bth individuals and cmmunities. Utilize apprpriate epidemilgic methds fr develping and testing hyptheses relating t nutritin and health utcmes at the ppulatin level. Develp skills in designing, implementing, and evaluating nutritin interventins t imprve the health f cmmunities. Appreciate the rle f public health plicy in altering the fd envirnment at the cmmunity level. Prerequisites: Students wh d nt have an undergraduate degree in nutritin when applying t the Public Health Nutritin MPH prgram must successfully cmplete ne intrductry nutritin and ne advanced nutritin r nutritinal bichemistry curse at the undergraduate level (r higher) with a grade f C r higher prir t matriculating int the prgram. GW's SPH ffers EXNS 2114 Nutritin Sciences I and EXNS 2115 Nutritin Sciences II. Tgether, these curses satisfy the Public Health Nutritin MPH prgram pre-requisite cursewrk.

Prgram Specific Cmpetencies Upn cmpletin f the MPH in Public Health Nutritin, students will pssess the fllwing functinal cmpetencies: Integrate nutritin within the cre functins f public health. Students will be able t translate nutritin research int public health practice thrugh applicatin f skills in nutritin assessment/surveillance, prgram planning and evaluatin, management, educatin and health prmtin, public plicy, and health cmmunicatin [Relevant Curses: PubH 6500, 6610] Describe the internatinal and US public health nutritin system. Students will identify the gvernmental structures and prcesses invlved in the develpment f public plicy, legislatin, regulatins and delivery f services that influence fd intake, nutritinal status, and health f ppulatins. Students will identify ptential envirnmental, ecnmic, behaviral, plitical, cultural and histrical factrs that impact the fd system (including the prductin, prcessing, distributin, and cnsumptin f fd) and water supply. Curse Requirements: Successful cmpletin f the Cre Curses and the Prgram-Specific Curses are required. 3. Grade Pint Requirement: A 3.0 (B average) verall grade pint average is required. 4. Time Limit Requirement: The degree must be cmpleted within fur years. 5. Transfer Credit Plicy: Up t 12 graduate credits that have nt been applied t a previus graduate degree may be transferred t the MPH. Up t 18 credits may be transferred t the MPH frm the SPHHS Graduate Certificate. Credits must have been earned frm an accredited institutin in the last 3 years with a grade pint f 3.0 r better. 6. CITI Training requirement: All students are required t cmplete training regarding human subject prtectin regulatin and the Health Insurance Prtability and Accuntability Act f 1996 (HIPAA).
