VISN Overview Located in Glendale, Colorado and was established in March 1996 as one of 21 Veterans Integrated Service Networks (VISNs) The Network spans over 500,000 square miles across several states and is one of the largest networks in terms of geographic area. Network topography includes the Rocky Mountains, and areas subject to extreme winter weather. From late fall through spring, travel in the area is often difficult and sometimes impossible due to severe snow, wind and occasional road closures. VISN 19 operates 8 Health Care Systems (HCS) VA Oklahoma City HCS, VA Montana HCS, VA Eastern Colorado HCS, VA Salt Lake City HCS and VA Sheridan HCS ; VA Muskogee HCS, VA Cheyenne HCS, and VA Grand Junction HCS. In addition to providing health care, training for health care professionals; to conduct medical research; to serve as a contingency backup to DoD medical services; and, during national emergencies, to support the National Disaster Medical System (NDMS). 4
