NEPHROLOGY NURSING CERTIFICATION COMMISSION
Year in Review Year End Report 20-2017 This has been a year of uncertainty and change in our nation. As the country looks for new ways to connect and communicate with its citizens, the Nephrology Nursing Certification Commission (NNCC) Board of Commissioners continues to explore new opportunities to more Kim Deaver effectively reach out to and support our certificants. One innovation now in place is the ability for NNCC to text message any new updates, including upcoming recertification reminders. Along with text messaging, the NNCC is active on social media, predominantly Facebook. We welcome comments, concerns, and questions about certification, recertification, and continuing education requirements. NNCC also is about to embark on a new look to our web page. As NNCC certification and recertification continue to grow, we look forward to connecting and supporting new and exciting technological pathways. We welcome certificants feedback and will work diligently to continually improve our service. The Accreditation Board for Specialty Nursing Certification, Inc. (ABSNC) recently announced it has granted accreditation to the Nephrology Nursing Certification Commission (NNCC) for the Certified Clinical Hemodialysis Technician (CCHT) certification program, and has reaccredited the Certified Nephrology Nurse (CNN) and Certified Dialysis Nurse (CDN) certification programs for another five years. NNCC is proud to announce that for the first time the Certification for Clinical Hemodialysis Technicians (CCHT) has met accreditation standards for both the ABSNC and the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA). This accomplishment not only validates the certification program, but also recognizes the important role that certified technicians play in providing care to patients on dialysis. In an effort to provide additional financial assistance for certificants returning to school NNCC increased monetary support of its scholarships this year. The three career mobility nursing scholarships that NNCC supports through the American Nephrology Nurses Association (ANNA) increased from $2000 to $3000, and a $5000 scholarship for Advanced Practice Nurses certified as CNN-NP and pursuing a doctorate is now available through NNCC. There are also three $3000 scholarships available for Technicians and LPN/LVNs. Visit our website to take advantage of these great opportunities. This year NNCC appointed a technician holding a Certified Clinical Hemodialysis Technician-Advanced (CCHT-A) credential to the NNCC Board of Commissioners. It is important that the Commission includes representation from the three examination boards, which oversee all six of the NNCC credentials. NNCC continues to collaborate with professional organizations to support opportunities for certificants to be successful in obtaining continuing education specific to the various roles and scopes of practice in caring for patients with chronic kidney disease. We also continue to support the many Magnet designated hospitals and organizations that encourage certification of employees to demonstrate and validate expertise in the specialty. Our advocacy award is designed to publicly recognize those outstanding units that promote certification. Thank you again for allowing me to serve as your NNCC President. Thank you Kim Deaver, MSN, RN, CNN NNCC President 2 20-2017 Annual Report
