President s Corner Dear GTFWC, I hope you had a great summer and are excited about reuniting with the Club! As many of you may know, I m sad to say that Marie Johnson and her partner, Henrik Christensen, are in the process of moving to San Diego. Henrik has secured a great opportunity to work at The University of California at San Diego in Contextual Robotics. We will miss Marie and wish them both the very best! In Marie s absence, I ll be filling in as President of GTFWC. I m looking forward to working with the Board and I m very excited about our upcoming year. Particularly, I d like to ask each of you to consider three things: 1. Please pay your membership dues (form attached) early, so things will be much easier and fun for our Treasurer, Carol Griffin, at the Open House. 2. Please consider donating to the Scholarship Endowment Fund (form also attached). Last year we raised about $7800 and I know we can break the $8,000 mark this year with your ongoing generosity! 3. Please call up and invite a wife/partner of a new faculty/administrator to Georgia Tech or a woman faculty/administrator, and bring her to the Open House lunch. There is nothing like that personal touch and we ll expand our circle of friends. We are trying something new this year for the Open House Luncheon, since the Student Success Center was booked. The Open House Luncheon will be at the Rooftop Terrace of Community Smith Restaurant of the Renaissance Hotel Midtown, on Wednesday, September 21st, 11:30am1:30pm. The rooftop has a nice view, from which we ll toast the upcoming year with a glass of bubbly, and Val Peterson will give us an update on the most recent Georgia Tech happenings. For your convenience, there are 2-hours of complimentary valet parking or you can, of course, walk the few blocks from Georgia Tech Square. I hope to see you there, and perhaps we ll have a surprise guest appearance!
