Course teaches techniques for sustaining life, preventing further injuries, and caring for illnesses and injuries until the next level of medical personnel arrives. Includes CPR level HCP and AED. Successful completion of this course earns a Canadian Red Cross, 3-year certification in First Responder, CPR HCP, and AED. Program Information: This is a required course in the Fire Training Certificate program. It may also be delivered as a standalone course or as part of a contract training program. Delivery: This course is delivered face-to-face. LEARNING OUTCOMES: Upon the successful completion of this course, according to the Canadian Red Cross standard, students will be able to comprehend and successfully demonstrate the skills according to Canadian Red Cross standard; assess an emergency scene; assess a victim and establish priorities of care; identify traumatic injuries and provide appropriate first response care; recognize medical injuries and provide appropriate first response care; and recognize special populations and situations, and their first response care implications. EXAM POLICY: Students must attend all required scheduled exams that make up a final grade at the appointed time and place. Individual instructors may accommodate for illness or personal crisis.
