The RQ-7B Shadow UAV system provides dedicated Reconnaissance, Surveillance and Target Acquisition, Intelligence, Battle Damage Assessment and Force Protection to the Marine Air-Ground Task Force. The RQ-7B Shadow UAS provides the Marine Expeditionary Force with critical battlefield intelligence and targeting information in the rapid cycle time required for success at the tactical level. The RQ-7B Shadow UAS system consists of four air vehicles each configured with an Electro-Optical/Infra-Red sensor payload, launcher, ground control stations, attrition engine, support equipment, and Government furnished equipment which includes power generation communications equipment, automated recovery equipment, remote video terminals, vehicle mounted shelters, and High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles with trailer(s). Each system is equipped with one maintenance section multifunctional vehicle and is supported by a mobile maintenance facility. The RQ-7B Shadow UAV system has logged over 47,000 flight hours since May 2007. Most hours were flown in support of Overseas Contingency Operations. The RQ-7B Shadow UAV system modifications are procured through the Army on the Army's Shadow Tactical Unmanned Aircraft System contracts and are identical to the Army's system. Every effort is made to ensure that the Marine Corps RQ-7B Shadow configuration matches the Army's such that combat units maintain maximum interoperability, maintainability, and combat effectiveness. FY2015 requested funding for Small Mission Computer was fully marked by Congress in the appropriations process due to FY14 unobligated balances. The RQ-7 program will procure additional Small Mission Computers, up to a quantity of sixty-four (64) in FY14 to comply with Congressional direction. FY2016 requested funding was originally planned for the procurement of forty-six (46) propulsion upgrades under development by the US Army RQ-7 program. Development of these propulsion upgrades was delayed by one (1) year and will commence in FY17. In FY16 the RQ-7 program will procure thirty-two (32) PRC-152A radios, weatherization kits, and other equipment, if so designated, to maintain Marine Corps RQ-7B Shadow Unmanned Aircraft Systems interoperability and commonality with Army systems and to permit full integration of Shadow generated information into the digital interoperability environment. FY2017 requested funding will procure the first increment of forty-six (46) propulsion system upgrades, and other equipment, if so designated to maintain Marine Corps RQ-7B Shadow UAS interoperability and commonality with Army systems and the digital environment.
