Mark Your Calendar 18th Annual Timber City Adventure Race Saturday, June 24th Individual, 2-Person To register, go to the Chamber s web site - We will need volunteers starting at 6:30am - 1:00pm. If you have a couple of hours to help out, we would greatly appreciate it. Thank you to the Maquoketa Lions Club, Maquoketa Optimist Club and the Masonic Lodge for donating shoes and socks to the 17 children at Head Start in Maquoketa. Welcome Lorna Dewell, new manager of the Jackson County Senior Center. Congratulations to the Maquoketa High School Bowling Team on their second place finish at state! Everyone attending had a great time at the Tweet Nothins, event hosted at the Hurstville Interpretive Center. Proceeds went to the Prairie Creek Pavilion project. Congratulations, Kelly Bartels named as Executive Director of Sunshine Learning Center. A nice crowd enjoyed the music of the Black Velvet Band held on February 12th at the Maquoketa Art Experience. Rose Frantzen lended her talents by sketching the band. Crayon and Marker Recycling Clear out your old markers and crayons and give them to the Jackson County Conservation who is working with the Crayon Recycling Program and Crayola. The crayons are sorted by color, melted and the wrappers are skimmed off and sold as fire starters. The crayon wax is poured in molds to make more crayons, available at CazyCrayon.com. Markers have the ink wadding and tip removed then the #6 plastic barrels can be converted to a fuel to primarily run generators. Crayons and markers can be dropped off at the Hurstville Interpretive Center and/or at Imagine the Possibilities. Maquoketa receives a grant of $21,500 grant to help develop a master develop,enmt plan for the city s downtown from East Central Iowa Association of REALTORS, National Association of REALTORS & the REALTOR Foundation of Iowa. The Maquoketa Community High School's Business Professionals of America students visited the Iowa Senate and Senator Tod Bowman.
