Recruitment event We organized the SPIE welcome event and closure of semester. We had the opportunity to hear ideas about the planned activities while sharing (many) slices of pizza. Impact: 30 attendees. Activities Student Chapter Report 2017 8/27

Colloquia Dr Greg Gbur participated (through the visiting lecturer program) in our workshop on Communications, signals and information processing. This event was organized together with the IEEE student chapter from Tec de Monterrey. He gave a great talk about invisibility and open up the discussion for possible applications. Impact: 100 attendees. MSc Perla Viera (from UANL) presented her latest research on non imaging optics. Impact: 15 attendees SPIE/OSA webinars with food and fun. International conferences Arturo Canales, Rohan Ramesh and Pablo Brubeck attended the O+P conference 2017 and the leadership workshop. Arturo Canales, Raul Hernandez (alumni) and Dorilian Lopez-Mago (alumni) presented their latest research in the field through oral and poster presentations. Benjamin Perez attended the Siegman winter school (Leon, Mexico). Pablo Brubeck was awarded with the SPIE Student Scholarship for his potential contributions to the field. Outreach We realized outreach activities with the science club from Tecnologico de Monterrey High school. We used the outreach kits and had a fun time playing Khet. Impact: 15 attendees. Benjamin Perez presented his research on structured light and quantum information in the Physics Week, organized by our friends from UANL. Impact: 20 attendees. Khet club and tournament We continue working with the Khet club from Tecnologico de Monterrey Highschool. We organized outreach activities for them and two Khet tournaments with highschoolers, undergrad and graduate students. The first three places won a prize. Impact: 20 attendees.
