McDONNELL INTERNATIONAL SCHOLARS ACADEMY The McDonnell International Scholars Academy is the Lead Initiative in Washington University s Globalization Strategy FOUNDED: 1853 CHANCELLOR: MARK S. WRIGHTON LOCATION: ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI

The McDonnell International Scholars Academy relies on partnerships with a select group of premier universities from around the world. We recruit future global leaders from these partners and mentor them as they pursue graduate and professional degrees at Washington University. In addition, we foster collaborative research and educational efforts across the institutions in the Academy on issues such as energy and sustainability, international understanding, and global public health. The Academy is an incubator for new ideas on global networks in research and education and will continue to pursue new initiatives in the future. The McDonnell Academy works closely with distinguished faculty across disciplines at Washington University and key leaders in the areas of: BUSINESS SCIENCES ENGINEERING MEDICINE INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS AGING AND PUBLIC HEALTH ACADEMY LEADERSHIP Academy Ambassadors The Academy Ambassadors mentor Scholars and nurture the development of international cooperation among partner universities and sponsoring corporations. Steering Committee The McDonnell Academy s Steering Committee consists of academic leaders at Washington University who oversee the Academy s programs and serve as an admissions committee. External Advisory Committee The McDonnell Academy has a committee of external advisors to advise the Chancellor and the Academy Director on programming initiatives and on developing partnerships with research universities in other countries. APPLYING FOR ADMISSION TO THE MCDONNELL ACADEMY Eligibility > If you are a student from a University Partner who has applied for admission to one of the eligible full-time doctoral or master s degree programs, you may also apply for admission to the McDonnell International Scholars Academy. > Check the list of eligible programs from each school at mcdonnell.wustl.edu. You must apply separately to the Academy. 5

Graduate School of Arts & Sciences Olin Business School Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts School of Engineering & Applied Science School of Law School of Medicine Brown School McDONNELL INTERNATIONAL SCHOLARS ACADEMY Application Procedures To apply to the McDonnell Academy, you must be admitted to a doctoral or master s degree program at Washington University. The McDonnell Academy Steering Committee will examine your academic potential and your commitment to international issues and global leadership. 1. Submit an application to one of Washington University s eligible doctoral or master s degree programs. (On the application, you should provide information on financial support or request financial assistance as if you were not applying to the Academy.) 2. Apply separately to the McDonnell Academy by February 1, 2017. You can find the online application and application instructions at mcdonnell.wustl.edu. Support If you are admitted to the McDonnell Academy for the 2017 2018 academic year, you will receive: 1. Full tuition for study in a doctoral or master s degree program. This support will continue as long as you are making satisfactory progress toward a degree within a specified amount of time. 2. A 12-month living stipend for each year that you are making satisfactory progress toward a degree. This stipend is set at $27,000 for the academic year beginning August 16, 2017. 3. A one-time allowance of up to $1,500 for travel to St. Louis to begin studies as an Academy Scholar. 4. An annual travel allowance of up to $2,000 for a trip back to your alma mater. IMPORTANT NOTE: If you are admitted to a doctoral or master s degree program but not to the McDonnell Academy, you may receive whatever financial assistance the degree program offers. If you are admitted to a degree program and to the McDonnell Academy, then our financial assistance agreement will replace that offered by the degree program. Notification of admission to the graduate or professional degree program will occur before notification of Academy admission. 6
